The sources I read up on all talked about the influence of the spiritual predecessor to the series. THey never once mentioned Alone in the Dark. It also included commentaries from the original crew that made the first game. So I'm a little stumped at where you're getting your claims now. Or rather I'd like to see the actual interviews where Mikami supposedly said that. The game that they drew inspiration from was called Sweet Home when you translate it to English. Also he mentioned in interviews about his movie inspirations that helped him make it but he never once mentioned anything about other games being an influence beyond the game they were initially going to make a remake of. It makes me kinda curious.

I finally managed to find reference to what you're referring to but he didn't just look at games like Alone in the Dark. They looked at several games that used prerendered background while using 3d models in the environments. So they weren't even looking at Alone in the Dark alone. They just glanced at it as a point of reference for the current graphical technology of the time when using the style I just mentioned above. In fact he mentioned that they were already at the time developing their own. They just had case in point examples that had already done the same graphically a little earlier.

alone in the dark is the inspiration that re 1 came to be based from but alone in the dark is not survival horror in fact the wiki online states that the term survival horror was specifically coined by the devs of re1 therefore cementing its birth into the video game scene , if anyone has any questions refer to facts and not your own opinions because when it comes rto mtrue resident evil fans they know the story and of coarse you were to be educated if your going to post some mindless stuff about things you obviously dont get then well thats on you for not doing your homework
very wrong, alone in the dark 1, 2 and 3 are nothing like this one tbh and that means they are nothing like resident evil... alone in the dark 1-3 are very different in every way. only alone in the dark 4 seems anything like resident evil....and yes, i have the full series of both alone in the dark and resident evil....also have silent hill and a couple other good ones.

this was the first game to play like resident evil. the first 3 titles were NOTHING like resident evil, so this title is indeed a resident evil clone...doesn't matter if you don't like it, it is still a fact.

Definitely true for New Nightmare. The original AITDs are a completely different animal than New Nightmare, and therefore a lot different than RE/SH. I had fun with New Nightmare, used to have it on disc, but it copied instead of innovated with its gameplay.

Even if it took a lot of things from Resident Evil, why is that a bad thing? It's survival horror which is a genre. This game actually does a lot of things better than Resident Evil. The original RE 2 had the A/B scenarios that supposed to show what each character did at the same time from each of their perspective, but they still did a lot of the same puzzles, so gameplay wise it contradicted stuff. The New Nightmare has completely different puzzles for each character in the mansion, and they explore different places after they leave the house. There are also a lot more radio conversations between them, even optional ones, and they meet a lot more time.
