Pick a place where you want to set up your mining operation.
Mark it out with storage barriers a little ways out from each side so that nothing overflows too far in any direction.
Create two groups of moosen of equal size, one on each side.
Assign a flag to each one covering only the area you selected.
Make sure your meese have more or less equal upgrades as you don't want any one side to be significantly faster than the other.
Now just extend the rails from time to time and you should be balanced. If things get out of balance you can upgrade the moosi on one side a little bit more to even it out.
Upgrading moose works on both, generally, unless you're really specific about 1x upgrades on the lower-stat moose. Most of the time people are upgrading them though, it will affect both sides and both sides will have the same stats.
