Rex (rabid dog) CAN be 'avoided' by just 'climbing' over the 'rocks' and 'going around' the dog... OR just 'kill' the dog & leave the 'loot' (Jewelry) there !
Bobby ('disappears' after 'telling' Cave's 'location' OR after killing Rex & taking the 'loot)... then, 're-appears' when you go north to 'leave' Highpool. Bobby CAN be 'avoided' by just 'moving' / 'running' past him. IF Bobby 'chases' you, first lead him to either side, then continue north to 'leave'. EASIER to just kill Bobby and take the 'loot'... (Jewelry & 45 cal Pistol) !!!
The 'trigger' / 'secret' to the 'stream & pond drying-up' and Highpool becoming a 'ghost-town' lies in the stream near the pond. At two 'spots' where the 'rocks are slippery', you MAY fall into the stream... WHEN you do, 'Brats' appear to 'taunt you'... killing the 'Brats' produces 'loot'... and more 'Brats' when 'loot' is taken. Finally causing appearance of a 'Chubby Kid' for a '45 cal Clip'. Taking this 'clip' causes Red Ryder (the 'character') to appear !
Red Ryder (saddened by your 'killing of the kiddies') MAY also just be 'avoided'... OR killed and the 'loot' (a 7.62 mm Clip) left behind.
'Taking' THIS 'clip' causes Highpool to 'dry-up' and become a 'ghost town' !!!
By that time I won't need to really go back other than to loot their stuff (who needs mutant kids growing up, anyway) and besides, if we were to be revisionist about it, it'd help prevent the events in WL2 by simply allowing adults to take over the place and eliminate much of the plot and simply get cooperative people in place to allow us all to save the ag center and defend against Evil.
Sometimes, to be good, you gotta be bad! At least that's how I now rationalize the assault of highpool in WL1.
1. Killing Bobby is lore outcome
2. Quest can be considered solved (unlike ignoring)
