Dominions 4

Dominions 4, problem with my CD key:
I had a big problem with my Dominions 4 key.

I bought the game Dominions 4 Thones of Ascension in February via Steam.

- I played hapilly with my friends and I love the game until May. In fact, it's one of my favourites games.

- Recently in May, I had a problem : I had a game with my friends, and when I tried to run the game, it asked me my key number.

Considering the fact I bought the game via Steam, I never saw my key (maybe I missed it).

My friends and me were disturbed to not be able to play and we made an error : Instead of waiting in order ton contact the support, one of my friend suggested me to enter his key to be able to play.

I entered his key, and I was able to run the game, but not to play with him. The game said : "key violation".

We are able to play separatly, but not together.

This is wrong!

I think this is a kind of "private key" or "client key" generated when I entered my friend "master/public key", because we are still unable to play together.

I think the current key of my game is still my friend's one. We believe that his key is now both in his game and mine.

I contacted Steam support, who asnwered me there was no problem, and inform me my current key was ... The key generated when my friend gave me his key.

Steam support finally answered me he was unable to solve the problem and suggested me to contact Illwinter, the creator of the game.

I sent Illwinter several emails, but I have no answer at all until now.

The ideal solution would be to erase the current key of my game and to replace it by my original key if possible or to replace by a new one if not possible. But I don't know at all how to erase the current key from my game.

I really bought the game, my invoice proove it. I love the game but I wouldn't to buy it a second time.

Is someone able to help me ?

Steam doesn't know what they're talking about. Dominions saves a text file called dom4key in the root install directory. Find that file on your computer and delete it. Next time you boot up the game, it'll ask you for your key. Now put in the key you got from Steam and you will live happily ever after, guaranteed.

Thank you but :

1) I've already tried to delete the dom4key : when I boot the game after that, the game regenerate the same file with the same number.
2) When I bought the game on steam, I never seen my original key (maybe I missed it).

Mandor: Right-click on "Dominions 4" in your game library on Steam and click on "View CD-key" in the subsequent pop-up menu.

DasaKamov: I do it, but when I right-click, I not the "View CD-key" in the contextual menu.

Furthermore, I think the current key in my game is not the right one.

Hmm, odd. Have you tried deleting the game entirely (deleting the Dominions 4 folder in the Steam directory AND deleting the Dominions 4 folder in the "/users/AppData/(yourprofilename)/Roaming/" directory)?

If not, try that, and then try re-installing a frresh version of Dominions 4 through Steam.

I recommend you make sure to delete all copies of dom4key on your system, then start Dominions by running the executable, not starting it through the Steam client. You will be prompted to enter the key.

I got the weird behavior of the file being replaced when I did all this through the Steam client, but when I run the executable, I do get prompted for a new key. Give it a try and all your dreams will come true, guaranteed.
