Don't wish for a Doom Horror. As far as I know it doesn't even work anymore, but even in the past it had a high chance of backfiring seriously. If SC is what you want, wish for Seraph. It's probably not a good use of 100 pearls but I've done it sometimes for fun when I've had a decisive lead anyway.
Edit - If I remember right, at least before the latest patch Doom Horrors had a 50% chance of immediately attacking the mage who cast Wish (so probably your pretender).
Generally people don't wish for Gold or Dominion, and I don't think anyone ever wished for a Doom Horror in a serious game. Wish in general isn't as big a deal in Dom4 as it was in Dom3 due to lower gems, slower high level research and harder booster access. however there a few things that people use wish for:
Armageddon is the best way for a non-blood nation to screw with enemy Blood nations by destroying population. Crippling their slave production without affecting gem income can be a real blow against a Blood economy in full swing, and if you have graduated to using gems for all your troop needs you can usually take the gold hit. Wishing for enemy Uniques that are fully geared up will teleport them to the casters province to fight the army there. This can be used to deny them to opponents during crucial battles, losing a Fog Warriors or Army of Gold caster at the wrong time can be quite decisive. Wishing to kill enemy Pretenders can fulfill a similar function. Wishing for gems can be useful, but is rarely the sole thing you gear up an S9 caster for.
In terms of Wishing for units, as Ica has said the Seraph is the gold standard SC but is rarely the best use of 120 gems. If you really need a flying tanky A4 caster ti could be worth it. Various uniques, heroes, Telkhines etc can also be used to break into any path you want once you have Wish. Getting into a path so late on isn't usually very helpful due to a lack of gem income, but if can gain you access to a big battle spell or have gems you can't use it could be worthwhile.
Atleast its not as bad as ether gate. Those units are really cool but I the price is unbearably high.
Armaggedon is still not a bad option for screwing Blood nations late game.
When your opponent overcasts some nasty global with his pretender, it would probably cheaper to wish his pretender dead, unless the pretender is something that can survive a kill wish.
If your opponent has a named unit (elemental royalty, father illearth etc) that is kitted out as an expensive SC or is casting some important spell in a big battle, you can wish for it to remove it at a critical point. The unit will attack the province you are in as it's still under your opponents control, but if you wish underwater or prepare to kill the unit, the wish should be worth the cost.
If you wish for gems you get 7x25 gems, if you can use them it's worth it.
If you also have Arcane nexus up, you can spend 100 astral to wish for 175 gems, spend the 150 non astral, get 75 astral back from nexus, now you have 100 astral gems again and a net gain of 150 gems in spells and items. A "somewhat" late game strat.
Some really important or expensive items can be worth wishing for, especially if someone already built it.
