Dominions 4

Dominions 4

Recommended mods that balance or make the game more enjoyable?
Hi there, I keep hearing that there are quite a few mods that improve the enjoyment and balance of the game, but the size of the modding scene coupled with a lack of Workshop support, makes finding them a little challenging.

I was wondering if you had mods in mind that are really good and make the game more enjoyable to play. How are the nation balance mods? Or mods like worthy heroes or those of the sort? Are there good mods out there that maintain the "vanilla" experience, but provide various improvements?

Thank you!

The only one I like to play with is magic enchanced. It just adds more stuff and compared to vanilla its not unbalanced.

Will take a look, thank you. I was looking at another mod called AI Recruitment as well. Apaprently it makes AI recruit more thematic armies. Seems cool. Also looked at MA Man booster since their nation needs a little help.

Strictly for solo games, I use Visible Sites, which does an automatic level-9 search on all conquered provinces. Saves a lot of time...

There is a list of Dominions mods in this thread, however some of the links are currently broken because Desura went down:

You can browse through and try downloading any that take your fancy. I'll try and get some time to update the thread and remove/redirect the dead links sometime soon.

If you want some suggestions for a Vaniila+ experience, the most popular balance mod is probably Summod. It tweaks the cost on most of the spells and items to make there be less obvious options, plus gives some of the weaker nations cost reductions or mage path tweaks to make them less bad:

Worthy Heroes is the closest thing to a universal mod in Multiplayer. It boosts a lot of the weaker heroes and adds new ones so that getting a Hero almost always adds something exciting. The new heroes are very flavourful and none of the boosted heroes are actually OP compared to some of the better vanilla heroes, so there is no real reason not to play with it:

The Chocolate mods boost sites and Thrones by giving them more gems, more summons and more effects in general. They increase the amount of gems in the game by a little, but they make site searching a lot more fun and rewarding:

Dominions Rebalanced is a conservative balance mod, closer to vanilla than summod if you prefer that.

Pretenders Rebalanced, alters only Pretender costs and can be used with whatever another balance mod you like.

Loving the mods you listed and they are really spicing up the fun! Question about Chocolate Sites though. I'm noticing that a lot of sites are auto-revealing themselves to me...I suppose the mod maker made several Level 1 sites into Level 0.

The mod is from 2014 so it can be very dated.

I think they did something along those lines in the vanilla game few patches back. Perhaps the feature in the mod was basically added in the game?

Also if you play using magic enhanced you can load the mod in the dominion4 mod inspector (top left corner) http://larzm42.github.io/dom4inspector/ , the mod also gets updated every now and then.

Latest update added loads of national specific items I think. Some of these items have significant importance, the few I found lately where one that gave 5 void sanity for la rlyeh and one that gave air breathing and +1 water as ea rlyeh.

Hmm okay about Chocolate Sites, so maybe the mod readjusted things that were already changed I suppose. I wonder if I should use it then.

Regarding AI No Recruit I may not even need this patch anymore. I recall when that patch came out, but it wasn't really specific about what it did about AI recruitment.

Thanks for the tip about Maigc Enhanced.

I have updated the Chocolate Sites to version 0.3. I have made it more balanced than initially conceived. Site rarity was normalized based on the rewards given, as well as the path levels needed to find them. I found that too many sites were freebies and that took away from the fun of exploring.

Because the mod has not been updated in over 3 years, I thought it would be okay to do. You can download the mod here[drive.google.com].

Also posted in Modding section.
