Therodos and Banishment
Howdy,

I've been playing with Therodos lately and I've been having a very difficult time countering any army with a half dozen H1 priests. The priests just tear through my undead armies. Without native access to Astral I can't cast antimagic to buff magic resistance of my armies.

What other options do I have to keep my critters alive? Do I just have to suck it up and hope that the armies live long enough for my mages to do their thing?

What bless do you have? Melia or Hekateride thugs are a valid option if you have a W9, an N9, or both. Alternatively, if you have a hero and the game's gone on long enough, Telekhines are an effective counter to everything.

Edit: Also, you can recruit units from coastal forts. Consider using some living units backed up by E2 Karebroi.

I've been playing an awakened rainbow mage with no major bless for early site searching, a dom of 9, and trashed scales (sans Luck 3). I've shied away from a major bless mostly because of the limited recruitment of sacred units, and the unreliability of the random spawns.

Consequently income is a bit low - being able to buy live units and pay for the upkeep isn't really working out. Might be time to change that and see what happens...

Drain isn't a good idea on Therodos. They really like their magic. Karebroi are excellent additions to your force as well, so start pumping them out, forging some quills, and sending the E2 ones to the front. If you're really desperate for MR, consider getting enough E1 mages to buff a large portion of your army with Iron Will. Alternatively, spam enough earth meld, destruction, and strength of giants to tear through the foe.

Therodos is not meant to be a strictly undead nation like MA Ermor. You need to mix in summons and/or Sacred blessed units and, ideally, will use undead troops only to supplement your main armies late game. Employing a full 5 groups per commander and employing skirmish formation should help alleviate some of the issue.

Their armies are primarily undead, but their living mages are vital to success. Daktyls can spam E spells like Iron/Marble warriors, army of lead, destruction, blade wind, earthquake, and rain of stones, while Hekaterides can drop mass protection, wooden warriors, quagmire, foul vapours, and the like. Eventually though, you'll want to start summoning Telekhines to start kicking ass.

Thanks for the information, folks. Time for me to experiment more and adjust what I'm doing.

This is something I've always loved about the Dominions community - everyone is extremely helpful. :fish:
