Cursed items
Although I have quite a few hours in this game, I still feel like a complete newb when I play it. I just attacked a throne, only a few turns into the game, and my best general picked up a weapon that cursed him.

So I was wondering, is there a fix for this? It won't even let me remove the item from him. It's called knife of the damned.

Specific information about this game seems incredibly sparse. Kind of frustrating, but at the same time what makes this game so great lol.

EDIT: One battle later he got into melee with some lizard guys for 2 seconds and lost both arms LOL. So, no longer my best general I suppose. I wonder who feeds him?

You cannot remove cursed items. Kinda sucks. As for losing both arms, that's because the Knife of the Damned inflicts a curse on everyone it touches that increases their chance to suffer an affliction, such as, say, losing both arms.

Well, at least, you removed cursed item! ;)

Healers and Gift of Health spell, theoretically speaking, can heal you from the any affliction, no matter how worse, taken that reason of affliction was removed (for example, artifical eye will give you affliction and cannot be healed while you still posess the eye).

But serious affliction have low chance to heal, unfortunately. :( (Gift of Health will work eventually though).
There is only one way to remove cursed item: let the bearer die and item disappears.

Yup, got it back in inventory and threw it away first chance I got!

Gift of Health, I'm assuming that's a ritual spell? I'll check it out.

I also just got a group of adventurers, and one of them is a healer that apparently heals afflictions of random guys in my army which is really cool. Would like to find some more mages like that.

The guy did die, and it was gone but a few turns later after a battle it turned up in my item vault, which I don't really understand. I thought whoever kills someone with a magical item automatically equips it.

No a global enchantment, okay technically a ritual spell but one of the big ones.

That knife is such bs. Whats worse is that if he dies next to another one of your commanders and you win then the commander might very well pick it up. Which is just bad. You know its a trap to have the knife yet they autopick it up anyway. Dont know if this is intentional or not.

Well, if you haven't needed slots (no hands, for example), item will be disengaged.

Killing is not always work though. Chances is, anyone close to the place of death during battle will pick up and equip the item. Just as gnorf73 noticed. :)

No. Chances to get are reverse proportional to a distance to the victim. So for hero-hero melee, item will be picked by killer most probably, but for arrow hit or simple hero-soldier fight chances are not so big. And item can be lost altogether (same is true about any extra items - for example, if your hero have only one free slot, he will get only one item, even if opponent had seven).

Actually, it _is_ global enchantment. And ritual spell too, as all globals. :)

Shape changing into a form that doesn't have the slot will get rid of it. Transformation is probably your best bet for someone who isn't a native shapechanger. Unfortunately everyone has at least 1 misc slot, so you might still be SOL depending on the item.

So, will the curse also go away after the guy with the item is shape shifted or is that permanent?

Nope, the status 'cursed' stays with the unit no matter what happens throughout the game. See also horror marking. Normally 'cursed item' and the cursed status (brown pentagram) are not related, but in the case of the Knife of the Damned you get both.

Not sure if Dom4 has become smarter about units picking up cursed items after battle, but back in Dom3 I had a strike force of Eagle Kings equipped with Eyes of Aiming for precision t-strike spam. After a battle where one of them died his compatriot picked up the extra eye and blinded himself equipping it.

Hahaha.. I can just imagine finding some magical orb and ripping it out of someone's head, then ripping my own eye out, and jamming it in there without being ordered to do so. Too funny.
