I think horror marks fade over time if the pretender or unit is dead. The curse is not going to go off though.
If your favorite commander is Cursed, there are several ways to mitigate or lessen the Curse to a significant degree. Any item or spell that grants Regeneration lessens the chances of getting a Permanent Affliction; as do spells like Waveform. Items like the Laps Lazuli Charm grant a large chance to resist any affliction. Any unit with the Recuperation trait has a chance of healing afflictions each turn, and, of course, any nation with healer units lessens the detriment of having Cursed commanders.
While the item advice following this is good, I must call out that the curse spells "Curse" and "Spirit Curse" have no resistance check. You just get cursed. This is why you never take your pretender into a lizard indie province, or against indie death mages with gems.

Does 100% Affliction Protection mean even if i am cursed i won't get any permanent afflictions?
Anyone know how much Affliction Protection does the Regeneration ability provides?
There are also few units with deathcurse. Mummies, witches and wraith lords. These units WILL curse anyone that kill them.
