Railbreak Sinden Lightgun Guide
Hello Survivor,

Railbreak supports the Sinden Lightgun and the following guide is designed to help a new user get up and running quickly to enjoy the game! But first, be aware that Dead Drop Studios LLC does not offer any official customer support, nor offers any warranty on your use of a lightgun with Railbreak or any part of you following this guide. Proceed at your own risk. By following this guide and/or using a lightgun with Railbreak, you are agreeing to the above. Sinden customer support is available here and they are a separate entity from Dead Drop Studios LLC. https://sindenlightgun.com/support/

Getting Started

You will need:

IMPORTANT RAILBREAK IN-GAME OPTIONS TO BE AWARE OF FOR LIGHTGUN USERS!
  • When you’re in Railbreak, there are a lot of useful settings for Lightgun users in the Settings - Game menu.
  • You can disable crosshairs for both P1 and P2 individually.
  • You can change the view pan from being smooth (like a FPS) to only panning when you’re aiming at the edge of the screen.
  • You can change your crosshair’s color to be accessible for colorblind users.
  • You can change the sensitivity of the crosshair movement (this is most useful when using two Lightguns as they must both be set as gamepads)

Setup

  1. Purchase and download Railbreak
  2. Download the Sinden Lightgun Windows Beta 2.05 9th May 2023 Driver Software from the above link and copy it from the zip to a directory on your computer, then start up the Lightgun.exe application.
  3. When you enter Lightgun.exe, you will need to review and sign the licensing agreement to use the Lightgun software.
  4. Plug your Sinden Lightgun into your computer’s USB port.
  5. Go to the “Main” tab in Lightgun.exe and confirm your lightgun is detected, and the camera is functioning correctly. You should see the camera from the lightgun in the windows in the application as you move it around. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button if you make any changes here!
  6. Go to the “Borders” tab. The Borders tab allows you to configure a border to appear around the edges of your screen to assist the lightgun in detecting where the “game window” is. If you find your Lightgun doesn’t detect your monitor correctly or is jumpy, try turning on the primary border and increasing the width of it using the controls in the “Border” tab until it is tracking your mouse smoothly. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button if you make any changes here!
    • Pro Tip: Do you have multiple monitors? At the bottom of the Borders tab is a box where you can change the display (by changing the number in the box) of where the border will appear.
    • NOTE: There is also a border for Sinden Lightguns built into Railbreak that was configured based on community feedback! If you'd prefer to use this border instead, it can be enabled inside Railbreak's Settings menu under 'Game Settings.'
  7. Go to the “Button Management” tab. This is where you can reconfigure the controls of the Lightgun. See below for our settings to make the Lightgun control all the functionality in Railbreak. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button if you make any changes here! We use the following button setup in Railbreak:
    • Trigger - Shoot (MouseLeft)
    • Front Left Button / Pump the front of the gun - Reload (MouseRight)
    • Rear Left Button - Grenade (MouseMiddle)
    • Front Right Button - Switch Primary/Secondary Weapon (1)
    • Rear Right Button - Toggle Border (Border On/Off [Alt B])
    • NOTE: We do NOT use the DPAD in our default controls (however you’re welcome to reconfigure it if you want) because the DPAD can be used to toggle Recoil and other settings at runtime and we personally liked leaving it just for those functions.
  8. Go to the “Recoil” Tab (Optional). If you have a Sinden Lightgun that supports recoil, and want to use the recoil during the game, you can configure settings here. We recommend changing the default recoil settings to make it a little lighter as maximum recoil gets fairly hard to control. Since Railbreak cannot explicitly tell the Lightgun when to recoil, we recommend setting the recoil setting to “Automatic Default”. This allows the recoil to fire continuously when holding down the trigger, or when you press it once. You can also add recoil to the pump reload function on your Lightgun if you’d like. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button if you make any changes here!
  9. Go to the “Calibration” tab. Follow the instructions on screen and calibrate your gun’s sight.
  10. Every time you want to use your Lightgun with Railbreak, you must load up the Lightgun.exe before going into Railbreak, and Lightgun.exe must stay running while you’re playing so the driver software works.
  11. You should now be ready to use your Lightgun with Railbreak. If you have any issues, revisit the steps above and ensure you’ve completed all of them.

Playing Railbreak with TWO Sinden Lightguns
  • Perform the above setup for both Lightguns.
  • Because the Sinden Lightgun is (by default) detected as a mouse, Railbreak cannot handle two of them acting as a mouse, so you will need to set both Lightguns to Joystick mode.
  • IMPORTANT READ THIS: To use your Sinden Lightguns in Joystick Mode, it requires a firmware update to v1.9 on each gun. Perform this step at your own risk. We do not offer any customer support or warranty if your firmware update is unsuccessful.
    1. Go to the “Firmware” tab and follow the instructions to update your Lightgun’s firmware.
    2. Once successful, reboot the Lightgun.exe and go to the “Main” tab. On the tab, click the tickbox to “Enable Joystick Movement instead of mouse”. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button!
    3. Go to the “Button Assignment” tab. On here, you can change the button configurations for both Lightguns. We recommend the following controls, but you’re welcome to make your own choices. Make sure to hit the Save Settings button!
      • Lightgun 1
        • Trigger - E
        • Pump Action - R
        • Front Left - G
        • Back Left - R
        • Back Right - 1
      • Lightgun 2
        • Trigger - Spacebar
        • Pump Action - R
        • Front Left - G
        • Back Left - R
        • Back Right - 1

Troubleshooting

As stated above, Dead Drop Studios LLC provides no customer support, or warranty, for using a Lightgun with Railbreak. That being said, here’s some quick tips on common issues we experienced and how we fixed them.

My Lightgun is not detected or working at all ingame
  • Ensure Lightgun.exe is running and you’ve configured all the necessary steps above PRIOR to launching Railbreak.
  • Ensure your Lightgun is plugged in and being read correctly in Lightgun.exe.
  • Disconnect any other gamepads you have connected to the computer.
  • Ensure your border is set up properly and functioning if you need it.

The Lightgun is incredibly inaccurate
  • You need to run back through the calibration step. If done correctly, you will find the Sinden Lightgun is so accurate you don’t even need the on-screen crosshair.

I have followed ALL the setup steps correctly, and when I’m playing the game the crosshair/aim is either still inaccurate, or it’s incredibly wobbly and moving around a lot.
  • Sit further away from your screen. We find when we’re very close to the TV/monitor, the camera still cannot see everything and controls degrade rapidly. By giving yourself more space from the TV, you’ll find the lightgun can see the entire border and becomes very accurate.
