magic master
I find it easy to become a weapon master, but with magic I cant become a master
is it needed to max out EVERY magic white, blue, black, etc. to master a area of magic?
with weapons there are only a few weapon options to max out
but there are MANY red magics options
it would take a very long time to max out all these skills

Yes, you have to pick up all three branches and master the two in each tree. The magic mastery skill you get is amazing and so worth the extra effort.

Is it only necessary to master the magic skills and do not require the passives? That sounds doable. I might give it a try. What skill do you get from Magic Mastery?

I know red magic you get a new aoe on location that bypasses armor, dazes, and burns (all three lines specialties) and of course the damage. With white you get an aura that buffs blessed and adds health and guard. Blue you get a summon illusion mage that can cast silence, dispel, and hold. I haven't gotten my green or black mages to the mastery point yet so for those I have no idea.

I do know axe master which is an attack that adds +8 damage to bleeding target. Not bad but underwhelming compared to red and white magic. Ranged gives an attack that deals a tiny bit more damage and has 5 more tile range, only seems worth it if you are doing dual wield pistol build. Shields come with a nice taunt multi hit, just wish it gave a few guard per enemy hit to brace for their clap back.

Wait, is there a mastery skill for getting all five mastery skills (Violet Magic?), or is OP just talking about the skills from a single color, such as those Darkluv outlined?
Darkluv Mar 31 @ 4:58pm
There is a mastery skill for each color of magic, you can only pick one mastery. What the poster meant was do you have to raise all 6 skills that have multiple levels of use to get the mastery skill. I know the language seems a bit confusing. You have to master all skills in the line of skills to get the "mastery skill". That means white magic has 3 skill lines and each skill line has 2 skills that need maxed. So that is 6 skills to cap to get the mastery skill. Now for the non magic skill lines there is only one line of skills requiring 2 skills to cap to receive the mastery skill. Now someone gimme a dollar for every time the word mastery is used in this post ... including that one ... MASTERY!

Ah, I see, thank you for clarifying.

For a moment I thought a Magic Master earned the mastery skill for a school of magic, unlearned all other skills, and started all over with a new school of magic. I have no idea if a mastery skill goes away if you unlearn the skills you need to max out in order to get it.

I haven't tested that fact and I'm sure Kaz could answer that easily. I do believe though, that you can only pick one skill to get the total mastery for. Like personality choices, once the pick is made it greys out in the menu. If it was possible I would make a team of super mastery soldiers heh.

Oh that is a bit sad to hear. My shield master is permanently a shield master? I was hoping to change them to something else.

Shield master isn't bad, and for a tank it's probably the best option. Would be better though if the provoke effect couldn't be auto resisted by all undead and golems. I'm just waiting for the update that makes dropping characters to pick up new ones better so I can feel more comfortable swapping out characters or the next update that is supposed to let you redo personality choices. I wish dropping a skill that is already maxed didn't reset it to zero uses if you pick it up again.

Yet again, Steam hid an entire conversation from me. LoL. Just catching up, sorry, mates!

Magic Mastery: just as you pointed out, the QA also said it's a little too lengthy to get all magic tree masteries. I'm planning to add an extra "use" of the Skill for certain circumstances, just like the Human trait does, but to specific magic skills. Stay tuned.

Forget Skills: Tiwaking, fear not! You can still right-click to forget those skills, even the master ones! Also, you do not lose the Master Skill (or any other) if you forget a skill prerequisite. =]

Extra Master Skills: I will be removing the limit on Master Skills. After your character completes the Master Skill Quest, they can get another quest for a different Master Skill.

Cheers! =]

Interesting. Out of curiosity, will there be plans to add in another type of skill for those whom gain multiple mastery skills? Maybe an Ultimate skill or such? So if you master the various weapons you get a skill relating to them in some manner? Maybe a passive that lets you gain the benefits of unlocked weapons without needing the weapon equipped (including dungeon scenarios like breaking down doors with axes or maces) and removes friendly fire for AOEs which inflict it)?

Would a magic master be able to get Violet Magic if they master all five kinds of magic?

On that note, are there plans to allow players to get rid of their choices for Spiritual selections? As much as I'd love to build a character to master all five types of magic, I thought I'd be limited to just one, and the -2 to magic of other trees that comes with that is pretty harsh. If I'd known this was going to be an option I'd have just not picked one and left them all blank.

Hey-o, Vex!

I thiiiiink the Master Skills are pretty much endgame material at this point, definitely overpowered in some sense. I don't plan to add more beyond those.

Violet Magic... did you... talked to Zarga on the Warlock Towers by any chance? XD

There’s actually some lore behind the Magic Colors, and I loosely based them on the electromagnetic spectrum for a bit of real-world logic. But nope! Zarga is the only wielder of the Violet Flame. Besides… the guy is insane. Did you see what he did? =O]

I'm going to do an update on Friday. Among many things, it will let you remove traits. Also, all trait choices in the dialogue already show tooltips with their effects, so keep an eye on that before picking. ^_~

Cheers!

Thanks much for the response! And yes, I did come across some books in a couple of Warlock towers and figured... why not see what they think?

That and I obtained a legendary or two that mention Violet magic as well.

Looking forward to Friday!

And yes, I was aware of the drawbacks to the traits, but like I said, I made choices under the assumption that I'd only really be able to master one type of magic per character.

Daaaaaang just opening up the ability to have multiple mastery skills will end up reworking all builds to try and fit in all the mastery that you can. It is going to turn character builds into a whole process that will take a lot of time.
