Any updates or resolutions regarding this issue?

When trying to run the initial set up after downloading from Steam, I get an error: "Setup has stopped working".

Graphics card drivers are up to date (nVidia Geforce: 344.11)

I removed VoEC and re-downloaded it (it will not install).

I have removed Microsoft C++ Redistrutables and reinstalled the ones in the game folder.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the .net framework (had 4.0 updated to 4.5).

I also uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft XNA

I downloaded and copy/replaced the mscorlib.dll (in windows/system32).

I removed d3dx9_43.dll from system32 (not in 64).

installed DirectX from the link in the minifaq.

This is the only game/program I have this problem with.

I have Windows 7 64 bit ultimate (SP1)
AMD 8 Core 64 bit (AMD FX-8150)
16 GB RAM DDR3
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard (socket 942)
Geforce GTX 460

I know this error will be hard to resolve, as it is not occuring on many machines (1-2% maybe). I would like to play this game, or hear back about possible resolutions.

Here http://www.personalcomputerfixes.com/general-errors/clr20r3-error-fix-programs-stopped-working/

it is mentioned to also clean the registry from any invalid NET Framework entries.

Maybe that will help you.

[KKB] derChat that site you linked is very bad, and would avoid using at all costs.

I highly recommend that you get Google Chrome and install the web of trust extension.

https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/personalcomputerfixes.com?utm_source=addon&utm_content=rw-viewsc

That site has malware and other very bad things on it.

On a side note I'd love to hear back from others with possible solutions. I don't want a refund, but i'm starting to lean towards it. It's sad, that even if it is a short game (4-5 hours) I'd gladly pay the $20 to enjoy it.

Thank you for telling me. I did a quick search and this site was my result.

Did anyone solve it?
Saitama (sake343) Oct 21, 2014 @ 9:49pm
I still have not been able to, and i've done a lot of research. It appears to be that the installation is trying to install the 32 bit version using 64 bit .dll (or vice versa) and is corrupting the initial set up. I have installed and repaired the .net framework.

I have also downloaded and installed C++ redistributables, all my drivers are up to date. Windows is up to date. I have experience in IT, and sadly this isn't an issue I can solve, as there is no documentation on it. Don't get me wrong, i'm not a know-it-all computer IT specialist, but I do know my way around computers (build them, etc).

In this regard I'm at a loss. Next to re-installing windows (which may or may not resolve this problem) I can not think of anything else on my end to do or try.

I have only received 1 reply from the company, and as I am in the minority of IT problems, i'm understandably a low priority (if it was a common problem, I'd be a higher priority). I've only seen about 2-3 other people post that they too, are running into this problem.

When you Google the error, it shows as .NET framework issue, but could also be a Microsoft Redistributables problem. I have tried to launch the installation as administrator and I get another error (only when I run it as an adminstrator).

The error I get is: AstronautsGame - Win64-Shipping.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the application.

I find this error (0x000007b) is a more commonly encountered error (calling on x86/x64 .dll files incorrectly).

I'm still trying to find a solution for myself and everyone else that has encountered it.

I seem to be having a very similar issue, though everytime I had play it states it is running the first installation, finishes then nothing happens. No error, nothing. Similar to above, I've tried many things, mostly revolving the Redistributables, to no effect.

I'm very disappointed, I was looking forward to playing this this weekend.
It would be nice to get assistance in this matter from the devloper. I would still very much like to play the game I bought. Any ideas or different installation .exe we can try?

I'm with the same problem in another game. I also did everything and nothing worked. 1 thing in commun: we have the same CPU.
My specs: FX 8150 | M5A88-V EVO | Corsair XMS3 8GB | GTX 670.

same here. I also started a forum post, which may be a duplicate to this..
http://steamcommunity.com/app/258520/discussions/0/620696522090589559/

I also tried all these things with no success of even starting the launcher. I also tried:

- set the launcher.exe to every combination of being started as Administrator and/or in compatibility modes for Win8.0 and Win7 (I'm running Windows 8.1)

- tried to disable AntiAliasing in the Engin/Config/BaseGame.ini (not sure if I did this right, but after that I restored a backup from the file)

My specs:
Win 8.1 64 bit
GeForce GTX 760
i7 4770 Intel 3,4 GHz
ASUS H87-Plus Motherboard

I also send an dxdiag output to the astronautsgame support, but got no reply yet.
To the developers: I chose the debugging option from the error dialog and used VisualStudio to "debug" the launcher. This is what the output said there:

Does anyone know what to do with this information? PDB files are program database files, but I think these messages can be ignored. But what about:

nvtt_64.dll - Module was built without symbols libvorbisfile_64.dll - Module was built without symbols

Another thing catching my eye is that there is a (Win32) everywhere, although my system runs a 64bit processor/OS...?

I'm having exactly the same problem here. It's a shame because I was looking forward to play this game.
Saitama (sake343) Nov 14, 2014 @ 2:05pm
The only reply that I have received from the company was that they do not believe they used .NET framework, and to try deleting and re-installing the C++ redistributables. I'm a patient man, so i'm hoping this will further come to the developers attention.
ArtFarmer Nov 15, 2014 @ 12:15pm
Having exactly the same problem here, same error ID.

But in my case, I had been able to play "...Vanishing..." all the way through already.
Only after yesterday's STEAM update did this error appear, and only with this one game....all other STEAM games I've tried run fine.

Intel I7-4771, Windows 8.1 64-bit

Other than an automated "flush Steam and try again" message, no response on my STEAM support ticket from 24 hours ago.
Saitama (sake343) Nov 17, 2014 @ 6:02am
So far it appears that everyone that is running into this problem, is running a 64 bit version of Windows and higher end processors (amd 64 bit 8 cores, Intel I7 etc).
muetzenflo Nov 21, 2014 @ 3:26am
Hey, for those of you who can install the game, but get an dll-error when starting the 64bit version:
dr00gnish found a way to play the 32bit version at least:

Originally posted by dr00gnish:
Hey, I'm working on pretty much the same problem here. With a lot of trial and error, I was able to figure out that if you take 'steam_appid.txt' in the 64-bit directory, i.e.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Vanishing of Ethan Carter\Binaries\Win64

and you copy/paste it to the 32-bit directory

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Vanishing of Ethan Carter\Binaries\Win32

Then you can run the 32-bit exe, AstronautsGame-Win32-Shipping.exe

Still no luck on the 64-bit version though. I opened it up in dependency walker and it gives the usual false positives for missing dll files (api-ms-win-core-...) that don't seem related to the problem (32-bit runs even though it gives the same missing dlls). However, the 64-bit version shows that all the windows dll links are to x86 dll files! I have no idea how to make it go to the correct x64 dll files, but it's what seems to be the problem there.
