Save system.
I have just bought this game and am holding off playing it as I have read the way in which it saves is not very good. Is it saved by checkpoint or is there a manual save option? I have read that people are playing for a good few hours and it does not save only to have to redo sections again. I also read this may be patched in. Has it?

Hi there,

I recommend playing the game on your own and making a decision after that because although it is probably the most frequent complaint that we are getting from our community, it is still relatively rare in the global view, taking into account all people playing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

The saving system in our game is automatic. The auto-save happens after you complete a bigger event like solving a murder scene, it is not based on how long you walk around the world. Once you see text saying "Saving scene" you can rest assured that the game was saved indeed.

This system works fine for most people but we are aware it is not perfect thus one of the things we are going to improve in the upcoming Unreal Engine 4 version of the game apart from graphics is the saving system.

I hope that makes the situation clearer for you.

Indeed it does. Thanks for the informative response. I look forward to delving in to this game.

I'll never understand why developers tend to think that the folks playing their games seem to have nothing else to do but game.

Great game, beautiful scenarios, scary details, exiting stories, .. This game has it all. Exept a solution for quick saving midgame, when I have to go somewhere in the real world. As an adult player I do not have a lot of time to play, and I really don't like leaving my computer on for hours. So, please - some sort of save option?
Wow. What can I say about this game other than stunning. The save system as is now, did not bother me or hamper my playthrough at all. It would be nice for the option to be there, true, but if you play this game in a methodical manner then the save system is ample enough. I look forward to some new stories to be heard.

Yeah, the lack of a proper save system is why I haven't touched the game since the day I realized what I was going to have to put up with. Looking forward to that patch, the game seems neat otherwise.

Just put two and a half hours into this beautiful, atmospheric game only to have it all taken away when real-life intrudes. WTF no save system!! So next time i play it (if i ever do) i'll have to run through the bits i've done, ruining the immersion until i'm somewhere new. Very poor programming guys!

I posted at first before I played as I had concerns about playing bits over and over, but after finishing it I can say the save system gave me no trouble. I died once in the mine but a nearby checkpoint was a saving grace. It's not as bad as some make out. If you know how the game saves then it is even easier to not lose progress. You will miss out on an outstanding game if you do not play it.
