[Spoiler] Jump scares in the maze
Hey guys,

I bought this game specifically because I'd been told it was a horror game without jump scares. I can't handle jump scares at all! Imagine my displeasure when I learned that there were indeed jump scares in the game, in the maze section.

Can someone who's played it please explain the zombie mechanics to me precisely? So I can avoid those monster dudes, not get jump-scared, and not die?

I just searched for answers if there are monsters in the vanishing.

And now I got remembered of SH P.T.
Someone made me "just" watch a full lets play of the game... I get scared really fast.
After P.T. I'm pretty sure my heart used about 10 years of its durability -.-

At least Ive watched the whole letsplay *proud*

but what has been seen, can never be unseen T.T
Nice game hehe and nice scarys on this part of maze
The maze is incredibly scary, and I could hardly play it... But knowing that (HUGE SPOILER AHEAD): this is the manifestation of a child's story really helped me relax afterwords... . Amazing Game!
It's different to watch a video about Amnesia - The Dark Descent than to actually play it yourself. After you play Amnesia games, you might start to understand why they can be scary or at least get you somewhat nervous.

I got through the maze and it didnt feel extremely scary but real jumbscares for me were Paul's remarks, they are always so sudden. And the traps at the beginning.

I get heart palpitations and it's uncomfortable.

I'm not sure why this would be a problem for you. If you don't want to help me, don't help me.

Hey, don't feel bad. I'm a 42 year old 250 lb bear of a man and the only thing that can scare me IS video games. I used to be able to play any video game as well, but as I've gotten older that has changed.
Movies, Books, none of that scare me. In fact I do paranormal investigations in places people claim are haunted and it doesn't bother me a bit. But scary games? Hell no, they are not enjoyable to me.
I think the reason stems from the idea that a video game can "cheat" scare you. It knows everything you are doing so it can set-up a scare you can not avoid. With a book or movie you can fast-forward through a part or skip it and still get 99% of the story. With a game you are sometimes forced to endure the scare parts to get any further in the game.
Don't less asses who don't understand bother you.

When I first saw the miner, I reasoned that since nothing in the game had been an "enemy" up to that point, and in any case the game didn't seem to have a failure state, I should walk right up to him and see what happens. The result was kind of funny. But I did appreciate the atmosphere of that part.

Obviously very late but for anyone else playing, just don't stop sprinting, that helps a lot i've found :)

It's a lot easier in the Redux version as you have a faster sprinting speed. It's ridiculous how slow sprinting is in the original PC version (the console version was four or five times faster to begin with).

As for the mine part of the game in general, I recommend this walkthrough guide:

I never understood why people are scared of a video game.
JOHN KNIGHT SENT THE MAFIA TO MURDER ME IN MAY 1991. JOURNALISTS ALL OF THEM GLOATED TO MY FACE ABOUT MY DEATH AND KNIGHT-RIDDERS GREAT POWER TO DESTROY. IN FACT JOHN KNIGHT WENT INTO HELLION BINGE OF JOY OVER KNIGHT-RIDDERS GREAT POWER TO DESTROY. I SECURED HOUSE WITH BLAST DOORS AND FLED THE COUNTRY IN JUNE 1991. N.B.C. ATTORNEYS, JOURNALISTS AND SECURITY OFFICIALS AT ROCKERFELLER CENTER FRADULAENTLY UNDER THE "FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT" ALL ORDERS OF N.B.C. EXECUTIVES GOT THE U.S. FEDERAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE AND GOT THE F.B.I. TO GET INTERPOL TO ESTABLISH TASK FORCE THAT LOCATED ME IN DOVER ENGLAND.
WHEN BACK HOME INQUIRER GOT UNION GOONS FROM THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES UNION TO SEND DOWN A "SPORTS JOURNALIST" -WHO – WITH BASEBALL BAT BASHED IN LIGHTS AND WINDOWS OF NEIGHBORHOOD CARS – AS WELL AS MEN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE. THEY ARE STATIONED THERE STILL. WAITING FOR ME. N.B.C., C.B.S., GROUP “W” WESTINGHOUSE. TIME. TIME-WARNER. FOX. EXECUTIVES TOLD JOHN KNIGHT THE WHOLE COVEN GLOATED ON HOW THEIR SOVIET PALS HAD FOUND A WAY TO TURN IT INTO A
To anyone wondering about this, it's not a jumpscare. If you get close to the miner he will simply attack and you just get ported back to entrance and you don't lose any of your progress. This is the only part of the game that involves any real-time walking mechanic. Just run into him on purpose the first time to get it out of system, that eased the anxiety for me.

For me the miner was always doing the loops clockwise so thats the direction I chose to go as well and I only ever saw him twice.
