[Spoiler] Jump scares in the maze
Hey guys,

I bought this game specifically because I'd been told it was a horror game without jump scares. I can't handle jump scares at all! Imagine my displeasure when I learned that there were indeed jump scares in the game, in the maze section.

Can someone who's played it please explain the zombie mechanics to me precisely? So I can avoid those monster dudes, not get jump-scared, and not die?

I never understood why people are scared of a video game.

I get heart palpitations and it's uncomfortable.

I'm not sure why this would be a problem for you. If you don't want to help me, don't help me.

Sorry, it was a legitimate question. Not attacking you.

Its only a small section of the game and extremely easy to avoid. When navigating the mines, if the miner appears, he will appear in front of you, to your left or right down a corridor/dead end, you will see the light from his lantern flare up and hear the creaking of the lantern as it swings. Simply turn and run back to where you came from and wait until the miner walks past and disappears. If you don't get too close to him, he can't attack you.

Try to remember that nothing really bad happens if he gets you, you just get ported back. That helped me.

There's another thread with more information about the maze:

For lots of reasons - the same sorts of reasons that people get scared at films, and books

Yeah, for me specifically I can't handle jump scares because my heart reacts very strongly. I can handle spooky environments and survival horror stuff so long as there are no monster dudes literally jumping out at me. In general I have extremely strong physical reactions to adrenaline and surprises... when it gets bad, I'll sweat a ton and feel like barfing, even if I'm not intellectually very scared at all.

Uh oh, here comes the pewdiebait.
Facewizard Oct 1, 2014 @ 11:32am
what do you mean by pewdiebait?

And if anyone else is looking to deal with this maze, the code is in fact the same every time. I found a screenshot in the screenshots collection in the community hub and used that.

After heading into that section for the first time, I heard the squeaking of he lantern and saw the shadows on the wall coming from one of the side tunnels, and I immediatly turned around and hightailed it out of there, running all the way back up the stairs into the mine proper, and just concentrated on solving more murders.

Eventually I exhausted all the other leads and realized I had to go back, so I carefully wandered though the maze, avoiding the miner whenever he showed up, and started to realize that he was appearing ano disappearing in various corners of the mine. After 2 or 3 times of avoiding him, I decided he wasn't actually doing anything but wandering around and generally being creepy, so the next time he showed up, I just decided to keep doing what I was doing and ignored him.

I must have screamed at the top of my lungs for 10 seconds straight.

This strategy helped me. After reading the posts here, I actually got myself more worked up about it than I really should have been. So I just decided to go down there, and if I saw him just to let him get me and see what happens.

That worked for me. I got it out of the way, and then I wasn't worried about it. Because he just puts you back at the start. The funny thing is that after the first time I saw him (and let him get me), I never saw him again. I wonder if collecting the bodies, or at least the first one, affects how often he spawns. Just a thought.

Yeah, i've seen him wandering the maze. Almost positive he'll move around and spawn in locations based on where the player is.

Play the P.T. Demo on PS4 and then come back and ask that question.
