Can someone explain the purpose or reason for the Unfinished Story
I got the achievement and don't need help.

I just want someone to explain how it fits and how it came about.

Wow just finished the game and came here to ask this question to see you asking it too.

Seriously i didn't understand anything, pinecorn, grenade, scuba diver,... sniper rifle??

Not sure how to connect all that to anything lol

Ethan was working on that story when the fire broke out. It is literally one of his unfinished stories. :starstruck::windup::steamhappy:

While that makes the most sense, do you have any proof that supports it from the game itself, screenshots or something?

MAJOR SPOLIERS AHEAD

It is more or less implied than outright stated, but the proof behind that reasoning is as follows:

1) The whole game happens in Ethan's head. This is why his previous stories come to life before reverting themselves back to their true form e.g. in the story about the Sorcerer, we see the Sorcerer's Room with its potion bottles before it transforms back to a storage room. And so with the Unfinished Story, the rifle reveals itself to be driftwood and the grenade a pinecone.
2) The achievement name itself.
3) Ethan loves dramatic stories that can be a little over-cliched. Hence Paul Prospero, The Curse of the Sea-Thing, etc. What is more dramatic than a story that features guns and explosions? Adding the scuba diver and we might just have a fantastic spy story here.

So why would the developers add the story to the game? Several theories abound of course. Maybe it was a joke on the fact a lot of authors/amature writers write and then abandon their stories (like me). Maybe it is to emphasise the fact Ethan is a young boy at the time of the fire and if he died, his life becomes an unfinished story. Maybe it was a way to test our detective skills? Goodness knows.

You don't have to accept this theory of course. Once I have written it out I realised just how little evidence I have for the theory, but it is the only one that I have seen/thought about that makes sense so far.

Happy speculating! :starstruck::windup::steamhappy:
