does this game have pause control?

i watched a playthrough on youtube recently and was suprised that the presenter could pause the campaign map. my only problem is that i couldn t see how he did it. can anyone help?

Pause key.

Apart from that you could call up the menu with ESCape or one of the F1 etc keys,
but that's probably not what you want.

i don t have a specificly named pause key on the keyboard
i tried hitting most of the keys but no luck including f1 etc...

Alternatively use a search engine (Startpage or Google) and search for something like
"pause key on laptop" + add your brandname of the laptop to find potential solutions.

F1 and following opens several windows of the game and pauses it (beware except F2 and F3, quick save and quick load). See manual page 63 or so.
If that doesn't work for you, then it's an issue with your comp.

I mentioned the shortcuts as i thought they all would pause the game, but it's apparently only F1 and F7 which do so.

excellent!...i tried f1 and it works, still allows me to scroll around the map. the royal library box pops up right in the centre of the screen but can be dragged to the side so no problem.
thanks once again for your help varainger. this will greatly improve game play for me especially during the battles.
