You seem to get the option to choose exclusively from 2 different mods each for military and economy. For military, both offer the same number multipliers for troops (x2, x5, etc.) and for economy, both offer an optional "hardcore mode".
I played the base game on hard, and went with the combination as recommended on the summary page:
"I suggest using Menssie's Economy with Ultimate Edition Military Expansion."
meaning:
Military: Gazatus (in my case: x2 units)
Economy: Menssie (+hardcore difficulty)
Language: English
I liked the changes (mainly the new buildings and changed cost of units), but the AI still sucked too hard to make the mid to late game worthwhile.
So I changed to the exact opposite combination of mods...
Military: Menssie (in my case: x2 units)
Economy: Gazatus(+hardcore difficulty)
Language: English
... and basically got the "Dusk of glory" buildings, which I can't recommend (OP stats, highly inbalancing for the early game if you happen to start with one in a city). Further, a few new units were added and some countries names and unit pools changed.
But this combination suffers from the description bugs Hospitaller mentioned, and I got overrun every time after building 2-3 buildings since everybody refuses to trade or act somehow cooperative and sends out (cheated?) masses of units to fight everybody and their mothers.
Does the hardcore mode only effect "hard", or does it add to every difficulty? Seems quite broken. I just wanted a more actively conquering/defending AI for the mid and late game :[
Dunno if I give it another try with Menssie's eco and military...
However, even after doing this "This bug is fixed by disabling scaling app on High dpi screen (right click on koh.exe > properties > compatibility > tick "disable scaling on high dpi" the problem does not go away. Can you suggest some other solution for it as i really want to play this game in hd. Thanks in advance. My system is: Win 7 64 bit, i5 3570k, 8gb ram, gtx 1060 6gb with 376.33 drivers. I've got the steam version.
(note, I also changed the exe properties as you did, before doing the following stuff)
Navigate to
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Black Sea Studios\Knights Of Honor
there open the file "KoH.in2" with a text editor of your choice, change the video settings as follows and save the file.
(the file only exists after you ran the game once. I ran the game once before I installed the mod to make sure all the files are present for the mod installer to work with.)
video
fullscreen = 1
mode = 140
width = 1920
height = 1080
freq = 60
the correct value for "mode" can be found by running the tool "listdisplaymodes.exe" which comes with the installed mod and can be found here:
(...)\SteamApps\common\Knights of Honor\tools\listdisplaymodes
Running the tool lists the display modes, and 140 as well as 141 represent "32bit + 1920x1080 + 60hz". You have to ask the mod devs what that mode value is good for, since on the first look its somewhat redundant as all the values are already defined in the config individually.
Running the game now should center it and give you 1920x1080 full HD master race resolution.
I'm not sure what's changed, but I have find this info:
- Easy : AI get 500% Gold and is more aggressive than in regular hard
- Normal : AI get 1000% gold and now create more elite units and use more fortified camp
- Hard(core) : AI get 2000% gold and will make your life end.
There is dificulity.in2 file in Knights of Honor/defs and you can try to tweak it, but there is no realy good solution for bad AI, except rewriting AI, and I'm not sure if that's possible without source code.
Reading through these definition files shines some light on that.
I re-installed the mod with these options:
Military: Menssie (x2 Unit size)
Economy: Menssie (+ Hardcore mode activated)
Language: English
Ingame difficulty mode: Hard
This works best for me so far. The AI seems to be using better troops, more marshals and I even got shot to pieces from 2 fortified camps once :,D
Never happens in the standard game.
I noticed that the new upgrades for the training grounds (barracks and military academy) only work if you use this double menssie setup... using Gazathus-Military also shows the tooltips ("barracks required") but you can build the unit without actually having a training ground (or an upgraded version).
It would be nice if you describe the feasible install-combinations better on the moddb page. But thanks for your work anyways. It's awesome to see modders reviving this little gem :]
In this mod there are new Buildings which are very strong. Give you a heavy boost. Does somewhere knows where i can get a list about this super buildings?
After installing mod, there is "buildings.in2" file in your KoH installation directory, it contains list of all buildings and their stats.
(Knights of Honor\defs\economy\buildings.in2)
This worked perfect. Running the game now without an issue and it looks great.
Thank you for creating this mod! Happy to see this game is still being worked on. Its a hidden gem for sure.
I don't think so. That would be a cool addition. I usually stop playing the battles myself in the mid and endgame, when i can choose from enough units to get a balanced mix ....except the sieges, because SIEGES \,,/ ô,Ô \,,/
You can opt for units which are easier to lead yourself. Personally, I love mounted Archers (especially the steppe cav and mongol dude) for hit and run until ammo runs dry. Most enemies are ripe for getting melee charged by that point. When you use them for automatic battles or sieges, they suck hard (many casualties). For more Static play, ballistas are cool (the huge ass crossbows on wheels).
Having good moral values seems to be more important in the 3D battles than in calculated ones, so opt for that with your marshal skills, otherwise your high end units sometimes ♥♥♥♥ themselves even against poor equipped enemies.
I think my biggest problem with the combat is the screen is to far zoomed in. I perfer to see a larger battlefield to get a feel for where all my troops are positioned.
Ya an option to just watch the ai go at it on the 3d map during the campaign would be awesome. Also would love a zoom out option in 3d combat to see more of the battlefield
