This is how the salary cap works in Madden 24 and 25. Maybe the percentages are a bit different but the part about the penalties is the info you need that will make you an expert.

Since I'm trading for the player, I should be taking the cap hit, no?
Anyways, I just went back a couple of games into the season, and traded a pick and a player for him without problems.
But they had improved their cap to 1,5m in the meantime.
It's just possible they traded someone or you were trading for someone that had a signing bonus left on his first 5 contract years. That bonus you give players when you sign them will always be paid to them, depends on if they are traded/cut or not how they will get that bonus and how it will effect their salary cap.
