If you turn off almost entire HUD (I only leave the lap times visible) it is easier to judge corner entry on ultrawide, because depth perception is intimately tied to peripheral vision.
So, if you have HUD elements on left and right, and they're blocking your vision, your brain will interpret the image you see as flatter, and when you have unobstructed peripheral vision, you'll see more depth.
Try it.
You can see the same effect if you open a balcony and look outside while standing inside your house (so the balcony door is your portal), vs going outside.
When you go outside you'll gain depth perception.
