Opened the forums on a whim and saw this post front page, all I've done is turn off motion blur and manually set the eye resolution and half my games that have been stuttering hard are perfect now. I knew it had to be something simple but didn't think it would be that, since I couldn't play Pistol Whip but could play Alyx fine haha.
If only Sony could have provided detailed settings and guidance like this!
- SteamVR error: VRInitError_IPC_CompositorConnectFailed: "Shared IPC Compositor Connect Failed (306)". Uninstalling SteamVR or PlayStation VR2 application on the chance it will fix the error.
And this error:
- PlayStation VR2 application issue: "Check DisplayPort Connection. The DisplayPort cable is not connected. Make sure you connect the PS VR2 PC adapter and your PC with a DisplayPort (1.4 or higher)"
Both happened after installing the 2.0 Firmware for for the PSVR2 headset.
I have tried changing display ports and reinstalling both drivers and software with no luck.
Hi, please try the following...
- Disconnect the Display port cable on the graphics card and try a different port.
- Disconnect the USB cable and try a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port instead.
- Make sure the cables connected to the adapter itself are firmly connected.
- If you are using an extension cable, connect it directly instead.
- If your cable is 3M or longer, please try a 2M or shorter cable instead.
- If you have a separate dock or hub connected to the PC. Disconnect it as it might affect the use of the adapter.
While having the headset switched off. Please uninstall both SteamVR and PlayStation VR2 application.
Then install the most current graphics card drivers you can find for both your integrated graphics card and dedicated graphics card.
After restarting the machine, launch Steam as administrator by right clicking and selecting it from the menu and begin by installing SteamVR before the PlayStation VR2 application. Then complete the headset configuration.
I am also having the same error "Check DisplayPort Connection etc.etc." and have not been able to get past it, I bought a cord of amazon since it did not come provided... and yeah still have not figured out how to get around it
- Confirm the cable is the correct specification and if the cable is 3m or longer, use a 1 or 2M cable instead.
- Connect the graphics card cable to a different port on the graphics card.
- Connect the USB cable to a different port. If the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports aren't working, use a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port instead (it may be labelled USB 3.1 Gen 1 with the older branding) .
- Install the most current graphics card driver for the integrated graphics and dedicated graphics card.
- Uninstall SteamVR and PlayStation VR2 application and restart the machine.
- Then launch Steam as administrator and install SteamVR before the PlayStation VR2 application.
- Complete the configuration steps of the PlayStation VR2 application on first launch.
- Switch off any additional displays that do not need to be active while VR is in use.
If you continue to have graphics card errors, check that the graphics card is compatible.
What are the required PC specs to use PS VR2 on PC?[www.playstation.com]
anyways cant seem to get past the display port screen
I have tried every usb port on my laptop and that did not make a change
my laptop is very new, lenovo legion, it should be fully equipped, i only bought it like 3 months ago
but yes any ideas on what to do next
You'll need to check that your type-C port can output via the graphics card. You can confirm this by opening Nvidia control panel and set the PhysX preferred graphics card to Performance (dedicated graphics card) and repeat in the 3D settings.
When that has been set, the image should indicate the type-C or Thunderbolt port listed under the dedicated graphics image. If it stays in the integrated graphics image, the feature isn't supported and you may need to look into using an external graphics card instead (if you have Thunderbolt or Oculink).
I have constant headset tracking stutter and none of the proposals worked so far. I have motion smoothing disabled with a custom resolution and I've disabled hardware-accelerated GPU-scheduling (read this somewhere else), all to no avail. I don't think I have Virtual Desktop installed, therefore there shouldn't be drivers for this.
Do you have any other idea? I have an AMD CPU with integrated graphics (enabled in both BIOS and Win 11, as PSVR2 app would not run otherwise) and an Nvidia GPU. The stutter is always there, in Steam VR home and games. Ruins the whole experience for me :-(
It might be easier to begin with updating the BIOS, installing the motherboard chipset driver software and then changing the USB-A cable to a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port.
If you have an X3D processor with a multiple chiplet CCD design, you can also try disabling the second CCD1 and keep the first chiplet active CCD0.
If you are fine with only the SteamVR Dashboard, you can disable SteamVR Home in SteamVR advanced settings.
When the Mirrored VR content is displayed on the monitor, you can minimize the window.
Additionally, if you have multiple displays connected, have only a single display active while using VR as the additional screens aren't needed while wearing a headset.
Disable live wallpapers or extend the duration to be less frequent.
This thread has many suggestions you can try, it is likely one of these fixes may resolve the issue you're seeing with the headset.
PSVR2 PC VR optimisations and fixes for performance and headset stuttering issues
If you manage to have it working, please provide feedback of which changes worked in your configuration.
Most things you mentioned don't apply to me, but I will work my way through the rest and then also the ones from the linked Reddit thread.
Might be a few days, but I will report back.
I think I cracked it! In my case, the hint to try and disable overlays was key. As soon as I killed MSI Afterburner (and thereby also killing Riva Tuner Statistics Server), it was buttery smooth in the headset :-)
So far I have not found a way to keep Afterburner running by adding an exception to RTSS for SteamVR, as killing MSI Afterburner also kills my GPU undervolt, which I don't want. Even adding all the SteamVR exe files as exceptions to RTSS didn't do the trick, but maybe I'll find another way.
Anyway, thanks to you I can now finally enjoy stutter-free VR gaming, so thank you again!
So now I only have to remember killing Afterburner before starting SteamVR and all is well :-)
