PlayStation®VR2 App

PlayStation®VR2 App

PSVR2 blurry image
So after fiddling with issues with the controllers turning off consntatly, lossing connection firs the right one, then the left one I got it resolved finally, but then a new issue arrised, setting up the headset and play space area. After that I finally went and browsed through the steam vr room or whateveri it was called and I was very disappointed at how blurry the image looked. And I thought it was the app itself, but no I fired up HL Alyx, at first when the valve logo appeared everything looked sharped and excellent, but then I started the game and I was disappointed at the image being very blurry looking, even the textures up close did not look very impressive, same goes for the overall image, especially when looking farther.
Is it the same with every other VR game with this headset?
Because when I played on PS5, it wasn't as bad, I only played the demos yet, haven't tried any full game, but the horizon vr game call of the mountain did not look that blurry...
Just strange

In the SteamVR dashboard there is a VR headset icon on the taskbar. Clicking that will load the PSVR2 settings menu within VR mode. In there you can adjust the brightness at 60% or 70%. Those have seen an improvement in the appearance of film grain and blurriness on the PSVR2 in SteamVR.

You can then use some like Reshade to adjust the sharpness of the image to reduce the appearance of blurriness.

Try also adjusting your headset interpupillary distance, the front lens to eye adjustment and the back of the headset dial to confirm the headset is fitted correctly. Since these use fresnel lenses it has a smaller sweet spot and when not fitted correctly it can appear blurry. If you share the headset with family, use a microfiber cloth (by itself) to lightly clean the lenses before use (as the lenses have a thin coating that easily comes off).

Thank you for the help. Will try to adjust some settings in the psvr2 settings menu. Will report back if it improves somehow

Is this your first headset or are you coming from something else? I came from a quest 1, with a lower screen resolution, and even that was sharper than this headset. I think they are just poor quality lenses unfortunately

Adjust your headset using the dial at the back to tighten it, and use the interpupillary adjustment scroll to widen or narrow the image to your eyes. You can also use the front top button to bring the display closer or further away to your preference. When using the headset, you should view through the sweet spot of the lens where it appears clearest and move your head to view in a different direction. This will make sure the image appears best in any direction you look in VR.

If you notice an excessive film grain effect and blurriness in the entire image, reduce the brightness of the VR headset anywhere between 60-70% via the SteamVR dashboard PlayStation VR2 headset icon.

Its a first headset, ever. But I tried the index on my friends PC 4 or so years ago, tried hl alyx there, I cant remember precisely, but that headset did not have such a blurry image

I've been using the headset for a few months now, done everything you suggested, every configuration possible, and yes, at this point I can get the sweet spot almost instantly. However, it's just a tiny sweetspot. With my quest one I could look around with my eyes and the image would still be clear, with the psvr2, even a few degrees from the center of the lens is blurry. (also, I use a microfibre lens cleaning cloth, so it's not scratched, & no liquid cleaners) I think its just a flaw of the headset that I don't see many people mention. When it is mentioned they say that it's due to fresnel lenses, but the quest 1 had those too and they were so much nicer.

Yeah, I haven't used an index personally but I've heard the lenses are excellent. Unfortunately I think this headset just has low quality lenses. On the bright side, this is the only PCVR headset that has an oled screen, so the colours are amazing.

yep, I love the oled screens, even without HDR, which is not supported on PC, hl alyx looks incredible. On ps5 even HDR is supported and I played a few demos there and the call of mountain demo looks incredible

There have already been a few good, no longer produced vr headsets with oled screens. There are also some new vr oled kits, but they are, let's say, 4x more (and up) expensive than ps vr 2. The Ps vr2 is a very cheap oled set with such resolution, workmanship and capabilities.

Oled gives additional immersion in vr, excellent blacks allow for a new level of experience in caves, basements, flying a plane at night, and similar activities. In combination with headphones that cut off external sound, it becomes very real.

And I also heard the space games, like the elite dangerous is excellent with psvr2.
I had no idea there were so many vr headsets with oled screens, I thought psvr2 was the first one. I guess the ones you mentioned are not for commercial use ?

No, these are ordinary vr headsets, at regular prices.
Back in the day, there were vr oled kits at budget prices (say $500). Now at this price, the only new oled set that can be bought is the ps vr2. All other vr oled kits today are the middle price segment of vr.

Yes, space is beautiful too.

It was one of the first things I saw in vr. I will remember my first time outside a space capsule for the rest of my life. Oled and headphones, it was scary and beautiful at the same time.

My Quest 2 running on Virtual Desktop has sharper images compared to the PSVR 2, and I don't have to hunt for a sweet spot. The lack of clarity and small sweet spot are the most disappointing things about the PSVR 2. The colors and deep blacks saves it and the $350 black friday deal make it tolerable.
