PSVR2 HDMI AND DISPLAYPORT PROBLEM
I have the adaptor and everything ready but it does not seem to recognise a HDMI to Display port adaptor as a display port and this means the whole thing will not work. Can I fix this?

Is it hdmi to dp 1.2? you need dp 1.4 for the psvr2 adapter to work. i Just ordered a usb-c to dp1.4 i will try this on thuesday and will give a feedback

sony literally stated that it has to be direct DP to DP 1.4

Where?
"Use of this product requires a commercially available DisplayPort™ cable (sold separately) that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4."

Here
"*2 Must have a dedicated Mini DisplayPort™ or standard DisplayPort™ output port. DisplayPortTM over USB Type-C® is not compatible with your PlayStation®VR2 PC adapter."

Except that the second statement has proven to be false and has worked for most.

Even if HDMI to DP signal conversion would be possible, anything below HDMI 2.1 would be incompatible with PSVR2 displays.

USB-C does not work if its not thunderbolt or minidp compatible.
Some laptops are compatible.
HDMI to DP does not work in any case.

HDMI and DP are more than just differently shaped ports, they support different features at different version sets. Sony *did* state you would need a DP 1.4 port. Your PC might have a thunderbolt/USB port with display out where an adapter might work (as those ports are 'universal' in that they're just ways to output general data) but you would have to test and may change depending on specific hardware/firmware.

Read the specs before buying into highly niche hardware tbh

Yes, while HDMI can be converted to DisplayPort, I don't think that's enough. There's a set of DP features that don't convert over. This adapter is injecting DisplayPort into the USB-C port. And HDMI-DP adapter MAY work, but it must be DP 1.4, and would likely have to take IN HDMI 2.1...and no guarantee it will work.

DP can be converted to HDMI with a passive adapter (as that conversion is simple), but the reverse is more complicated and it's not DP 1.4, at least not in a way that matters. Odds are the signal is being converted to HDMI at some point, likely in the headset.

You'll want it to be a DP port on your PC. A USB-C with the DP Alt mode can work, as would Thunderbolt, as it can do DisplayPort on its own. But not all USB-C ports have the alt mode (some are just for peripherals), and some use that Alt mode to support 20Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen2x2) instead of DisplayPort are unlikely to work, either.

If you have a USB-C that does DisplayPort AND provides a good bit of power, you may not need the adapter at all! VirtuaLink ports on older GPUs did this.

The adapter's job is to inject USB3, DisplayPort, and power into a USB-C with DP Alt Mode and PD power. Simple adapter, technically speaking.
