About Arcade and "Hardcore"

In story mode it says "Hardcore", but in reality it is arcade mode that proves to be the greatest challenge. If you've played hardcore platformers before, then you'd know that no one in his right mind will belittle such difficulty. I'd like to know the decision behind that :)

And here is my greatest beef with arcade - the levels are too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long! every run ends up with 1 or 0 seconds left, this is more suited to short bursts platformers like SMB or Fenix Rage, but definitely not to a 7~10 minute stage!
WAY too long for trial and error....
