While I understand the struggle, as well as I love the game Heart Machine makes I just can't justify the value for myself. When I support youtube channel I do get the product itself - videos. everything else is a bonus. What the value is here? Games get developed for years. Imagine supporting Heart Machine on patreon for a year as a seeker, you literally paid 120 dollars and didn't even get the game. Only high-res art and assets + some post for 120 dollars a year. I wish you and Heart Machine the best, truly, but I will have to pass...

I fully support this, and I would gladly give you money if I wasn't dirt poor. I love your games and style, and I'm stoked for Hyper Light Breaker. Don't listen to the trolls, people don't understand how difficult it is to make games or exist in the industry now. I wish devs could just make games without having to worry about money, it's terrible to see an artistic medium bogged down so much by operating costs.

I wish yall the best!

Nah, crowd-funding isn't the answer to everything, you're asking people to fund you continuously with no tangible rewards apart from some behind the scenes info and videos. How long is this gonna be running? How many factors greater would supporting this way for the duration of development cost me compared to just buying the game on release (or Early Access, because let's be real, EVERY rogue like gets released in EA these days)? HLD SE was only on switch, spitting in the face of people who were supporters since day 1 on steam and made the game as popular as it was. Times are tough for more than just game devs, I sympathise but not everyone has the money to just throw around, especially when there's barely any reward for doing so. I wish you the best but you guys really haven't instilled any confidence for this.

Two of your goals with this patreon are "to share more about the issues in the industry driving this state of turmoil" and "to reach a bigger audience with more transparency". How exactly do you intend to reach a bigger audience or be more transparent when you're actively setting up what is essentially a paywall? Do you not think there's a very real sense of hypocrisy in wanting to spread the word of the corruption in the games industry, but only if people pay you first? This isn't meant as a dig, I'm genuinely asking those questions. I don't know who's in charge of what on your team for the setup and marketing of all this, but a very poor job is being done of A) Instilling confidence in the game itself, and B) instilling trust in the sincerity of your intentions for this Patreon.

A patreon is a hard sell for me, Alx. What I'd much prefer is if you guys heavily invested in merchandising for HLD. The art and concepts from that game are so merchandisable it's silly. Seriously, the HLD art vibe goes so damn hard. Lean into the incredible art that already exists for HLD and do the same for HLB as it ramps up toward release. I'd spend without question on merch but the current selection is mostly sold out and limited in variety,.

I love Heart Machine as a group and yeah, it would be great to get access to more art and behind the scenes stuff from HLD & HLB but you're sitting on a goldmine of merchandisable art and concepts. Make it real!

Thank you for all the work you do. HLD is a masterpiece.

I'm definitely joining. Most Patreons aren't "worth it" versus just buying something when you tally up how much they cost a year, but the point is more in supporting the creator. All of your games have been bangers, and I can only hope HLB is too.

I do, however, realize that Patreon likely won't be a huge revenue source. I agree with the previous commenter that more merch would be a great option if you're in need of revenue.
