This game would make a SICK Metroidvania
I was thinking about the upgrades in this game and realised that the only path really locked by upgrades are the chaindash sections (2 that I can think of in the East) and that it would be really cool if there was a whole game like this like a Metroidvania. Upgrading your sword to a fire thing to be able to melt ice blocks and go to the ice world? Getting a super dash to pass through a sonic barrier and damage enemies that would normally have shields?

Eh, maybe it's just me.

Some challenge room require upgrade, not only the Dash challenge.

Sure that one require the "Dashing shield" to do the way, but yeah, it's confined for challenge ^^

You also need the rifle to shoot certain switches, although none of them are necessary to complete the game.

So basically, it would be cool if the game had more content? I'm sure the devs did the best they could with the time they had, and likely would have expanded the game to that level of detail if it was plausible given their limitations.

No, no. I love the game. Have you played Metroid? Basically, you explore an area and there are many things you can't do because you don't have certain upgrades or equipment. Once you find and upgrade different items throughout the game you can kill different enemies, explore new areas and it's one of the best senses of progression in any game, in my opinion (Super Metroid specifically). It would be a completely different game with different level and enemy design etc.

Yeah what you're saying is that you prefer a progressiv gameplay.

Like only the West available at start and you need an upgrade or specific skills to go in to the North etc...

Well Hyper Light Drifter has made the choice to get an open space and then some particular abilities to reach secret ^^

It's like you didn't read any of my comment.
Given how much content the devs already cut, i'm pretty sure it isn't feasible to add the level of detail and content that you want.

I'm not saying this game should have been a Metroidvania. I'm saying a game with similar mechanics as this as a Metroidvania would be cool.

Same reply, I like the fact that the game isn't linear. Metroid isn't linear, either. You can usually go two different paths at a time, although you might need to get an item first.

(Have finished the game)
The game have the mechanics to do some kind of things, like lazer rifles allowing to open some locked gates, Dashing shield to go trough bullets (similar to the Shield of link, to go trough fire) etc... But yeah, like >:( says, it is a dev choice or (maybe) not possible for the creator (maybe require more time, skills, prog or whatever)

SO the mechanics DOES exist, just not used like a metoidvania ^^'

I've finished it, but not 100%ed it yet. I didn't know you could use the rifle to open any doors, so I should probably complete the game heh.

I agree. The fact you get most of your stuff from stores is one of my nitpick, since you get a good idea of everything you're going to find from the start.
