Changing gear?

Im having a blast with this game, love the difficulty etc. One thing however, ive noticed that when i find the jesus dog and he leads me to some guy whose dying after collecting the guy's corrpse it tells me i can warp back to town to change gear, but when i do warp back to town i have no idea how i can change my gear (aside from getting upgrades). can anyone give me some ideas here?

Go into the room just above the portal in town (the room where you woke up at the start). In there you can change gear by interacting with... something. Don't remember what.

In your house, in the bedroom, at the mirror. Though I don't know if it affects anything other than a really small change to your color..?

There are a couple terminals in the house that you can interact with to change your robot color, cloak color, sword, etc. Just walk around the edges and listen to your robot.

OK so its just cosmetic for the most part.

I found that the cloak and sword you get from the 800 chaindash thing makes you use less energy when you attack, but I have no idea what anything else does.
