Save progress lost
Guys,

I formatted my PC and lost all my progress.

Of course I backed up all content in the AppData/Local/HyperLightDrifter folder and pasted on the new installation, but all I get is a new game option.

Any tips? Did I messed up something? Is it something related to the new 60 FPS update?

Same issue. The last time I played was before the 60 FPS update, and my saves worked fine. Started it up today (after the update), and the only option was "New Game." I checked for my saves in the local folder, and they're still there.

Not sure what's going on...

Strange, my saves are still there. May I ask how the dir and file structure looks in your %appdata%?

It's C:/Users/"user"/AppData/Local/HyperLightDrifter. Inside the folder I have:

- HLD_BACKUPS (folder with several SAV_BACKUP files);
- GamePrefs.dat;
- highscores.dat;
- HyperLight_RecordOfTheDrifter_0.sav.

What are the file names and types of the saves?

DAT, SAV, SAV_BACKUP, SAV_DELETED and SAV_YESTERDAY. The files were generated before the 60 FPS patch, actually there's been about 2 months since the last time I played this game.

I believe my backup is correct since I copied everything. I already sent an email to the developer. Hope to get some clue soon.

Can someone of you post both a screenshot of the "\HyperLightDrifter" and "\HyperLightDrifter\HLD_BACKUPS" directory, with all file names fully visible?

Also a method that could give further insight would be the following:

1) Backup the HyperLightDrifter folder.

2) Delete it from the %appdata%.

3) Start the game and create a new game. The game should restore all the application data, recreating your save location structure.

4) Copy your backup into the new folder. Override any files.

If this doesn't fix it, there has to be an compatibility issue with your save files.

I tried dragging the original backup files into the main folder, and that didn't work. May have something to do with the differences between builds.

Yes. Since they didn't change any of the directories or filenames in the application data, the last possible cause is compatibility. They must've changed the structure of the HEX values stored in the save files. Since you hadn't your save files in the right place when updating, it didn't get converted.

You can only contact the devs here. :P

That's what I was expecting. I already contacted the developer this morning, but I don't see a way to solve this besides playing the game again and trying to enjoy, since it's now on 60 FPS.

Have you tried to switch back to the 30fps version of the game and look if your save files are working there?

I don't think you can switch between update builds. Changing the in-game settings from 60 to 30 FPS won't do much I'm afraid. :D

You can. Go to Properties, Betas and select "stable_30fps" version. If the save works there try to go back to the actual build (or the experimental build if you get performance issues...)

Nice. Maybe you can even convert the save files this way.
