Yeah, it may be a true deal breaker. We won't know till the story is made but I get the feeling it may get Royally DESTROYED by this. I'll wait and see, since well, we'll have to wait given Epic.
The narrative in HLD was exactly what I wanted from a game of any type. I'm not really interested in who Zoe Quinn is or what she's done, but if someone else is taking the reins on the narrative that alone is enough for me to wait and see how it turns out.
She's very heavily put political aspects into some of her works. Not all, but certainly some. And I get concerned about that as she's quite a corrupt figure. Having her risk influencing HLD is really worrying. I'll wait, because I think even she could avoid overpoliticising the game, but it is a concern
Anti-consumer garbage and I'm really disappointed in these devs for going to Epic after Steam is responsible for making them successful in the first place.
I mean social engineering can beat any kind of encryption. :)
I still stand by my opinion that brand loyalty of any kind is not something to be proud of. Companies, both in and out of video games and including ones with generally goodwill love that kind of blindered infatuation, and any of them with a whit of business sense will exploit it in a heartbeat. Whether it's reducing the places you can buy your game so they can get exclusivity money, or something more genuinely insidious (a recent relevant example could be Bethesda and the canvas bag debacle). You're just making it easier for them.
If the dev runs SAK into the ground, I won't support that, because I want to support quality games, not terrible ones. I would want my own fans in future, when I become an indie, to do the same. Not just kiss my ass, but to support me for making quality games.
Please explain how being a "true fan" enhances anyone's enjoyment of... anything, and isn't just some arbitrary and relatively pathetic form of ♥♥♥♥ measuring.
I wouldn't call the developers crappy, HLD was a great game and a true show of talent. However the decision to invite ZQ, who only has corruption, scandals and lackluster projects (unless you drink the access media cool aid) behind her reeks of politics. And if you go into politics, you can't really complain if people with opposing views decline to support you.
I don't consider her to be a good writer, I disagree with her radical views and more than anything I abhor her corrupt, self-serving and amoral actions.
Due to all of this I find it impossible to support the SAK developers even though I consider them to be talented and interesting people. Unfortunately they've made their bed and now they have to lie in it.
Jeremy from Quartering is doing a nice coverage of it.

This.
Also makes me wonder if they have done the math.
What will be more 'costly'? Replacing a staff member that the community wants nothing to do with, changing platforms (i honestly dont know what 'that' platform is offering them to choose it over steam) or losing revenue from all the boycotting.
