Two very different games, not really much point in comparing them; if we're comparing the sheer amount of content though, Hollow Knight wins by a LARGE margin.

I think it comes mostly down to personal preference. I played HLD all the way through but only watched HK all the way through. I liked practically everything about HK - the art, writing, music, the platforming, etc... but the combat did not look fun, and mainly because of that, I never bought it. Some people love everything about HLD except the utter lack of instruction. I had no such issues. I will say I think HLD offers some more replayability after 100% with the challenge rooms and depth of combat. Not sure I can say the same for HK unless you're a speedrunner.

I would argue otherwise; other than the challenge rooms, HLD has a NG+ mode and the possibility to clear areas in a different order from your first run, but that's about it, the game itself is pretty much the same.
HK on the other hand has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of charm combinations, altering combat and gameplay in many ways, NPC questlines have multiple outcomes, there are several different game endings, and most importantly, being an actual metroidvania, you can traverse areas in a different order or even straight up sequence break, in both intended and unintended ways. There's also Steel Soul mode unlocked after clearing the game for the first time, which is basically permadeath.

Well, I was trying to refer to post-beating the game and new game plus, seeing everything it has to offer, which one would you return to. I rewrote my comment a couple times and lost the meaning, I guess. HK has a lot more to offer storywise but I was pretty disappointed by the flow of gameplay/combat overall, so I was trying to say I probably wouldn't come back to it after I saw all the endings. I've seen all the charms and wouldn't have thought they change actual gameplay experience that much either, but hey, I haven't played it myself. Again, it's personal preference though, that might resonate more with some people.
