I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate them i was stuck in a cave area for three days trying to fight off a assload of them with one block of health left they wouldn't stop swooping in and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me up how do I deal with em?

1 shot with the pistol is enough, be quick and precise and kill as many as you can as soon as you see them, if there's a lot coming in at once. If you know the direction they're coming from, just spam bullets that way, no point in saving up, lol
Other than that, if you're feeling brave you can wait until they swoop down and kill them with a well timed sword slash.

Practice timing for when they swoop; It gets kind of obvious but its still hard to combat when there's so many of them. I got stuck so many times like that hahah

They are only vulnerable while they swoop down at you or while standing on the ground. Bear that in mind to plan your attack.
If there are a lot on screen don't get too greedy, just kill a couple, dodge the rest and repeat.
Guns work best on them, hitting with the sword takes a bit more precission but it's not impossible or anything.

should point out that you can hit them with the gun while they're in the air, they're only invulnerable to melee attacks

I am pretty sure that you can't touch them at all if they are in air but i wouldn't need to check that to be a 100% sure (wich i won't).

I am 100% sure you can kill them with guns when they're flying, feel free to test it anytime
