Using a guide would defeat the whole purpose of the game, which is basically exploration and some combat. It would be like playing a puzzle game looking up the solutions for each puzzle first... what's the point of even playing then?
About actual progress, you can go east, west and north right at the start of the game, the only blocked path is south, so keep exploring and you'll find your way; don't rely too much on the map since it's a bit convoluted (especially the underground) it's much easier to build your own mental map, in my opinion. The map still has an extremely useful teleport system that allows you to warp anytime to any green teleporter you activated previously.
And to be quite frank I kind of dislike having to find the things on my own. The guy told me there is an audio que when near them but I'm probably gonna use the map anyway just because I mainly enjoy the game for the combat and not for the hopelessly walking through an area hoping the orb is there.
