It is meant to be that hard. It wouldn't be fun when you could save after every 2 enemies.
Take your time and play it through or go play beginners mode, when you have no time to learn the mechanics, but leave normal mode's difficulty alone.^^
All I'm asking is to spend less time backtracking through locations I've already cleared out, for the sole purpose of hitting the last save point.
I tested by killing a monster right after a save point, backtracking across the save, and then seeing that it wasn't there when I reloaded.
Maybe it's because the monster was close to the save? Dunno.
Just add the save points or arbitrary saving; call it "lul yer a casul" mode and remove achievements for all I care.
I never tried beginners mode, because i'm just too good in that game,
so i can't exactly say, what changes are made for that, but it must be hella easy! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also, this is PC. There was a time when PC gamers spat on the use of console-style save points.
Given all the secret paths I feel as though the areas are designed to be gone through more than once in the intentions you may spot them on your short walk back to where you died.
exactly.
