Hollow Knight is better to me: It's an odd blend of cute and creepy, whereas HLD is just sorta... creepy. HK has a great story and tells it well, and HLD, obviously, has no words to tell it with. Both games have beautiful art, but I personally prefer HK's hand-drawn style to HLD's soft pixels.
Honestly, it boils down to opinion.

I personally think gameplay comparisons are more important. Which one has better gameplay in general is a question I think you should answer, so what do you feel on that?

I prefer Hollow Knight; but gameplay-wise they aren't particularly similar. Hollow Knight is a super-polished metroidvania, whereas Hyper Light Drifter seems to be a hybrid zelda-like. Essentially I like Hollow Knight because it's got a much larger, more intricate gameworld, a simple but stylish art style, and much more dramatic character progression. The Drifter purchases upgrades that give him more options in combat, but it doesn't change the feel of the game significantly. The Knight earns upgrades as well, but they change not only combat, but his mobility, durability and versatility. Your character at the conclusion of Hollow Knight is substantially stronger than he was when you'd started. That said, both games are among my favorites; I just wish HLD didn't have that ridiculous 800-dash challenge.

Sounds like I might have to include Hollow Knight on the list of games I'm gonna get when the Summer Steam Sale begins.

One game has nothing to do with the other, but both share over the top visuals, tight controls and a very kind price.
Hollow Knight is an exploration based game wich people likes to call metroidvania and HLD is more like a snes zelda with fast paced action.

Both stellar games, each in their own way.

Definitely! I loved Hyper Light Drifter, hell I bought the physical edition for the PS4 when it became available, and with that said Hollow Knight consumed me.

When I started it I didn't think it was anything special aside from the art and sound, however by the time I got past the first area I'm not sure what happened but before I knew it I was 39 hours in. Absolutely loved the game.

Regardless, HLD is definitely worth the price of admission as well. When possible you should definitely play both.

I already have HLD; I was just wondering about Hollow Knight; sounds like you think it's a great game too.
