In Tharsis, you can also put aside the dice to avoid bad luck. I looked as pleasant game as Elder Sign.
Yes! I have a great suggestion!
It's very similar in style of game; so you roll dice to overcome objectives and meet certain basics.
Try "The Witcher Adventure Game"; the visuals are alot more immersive. You don't really need to have played the games to understand it. Here are a few pros and cons compared to Elder Sign;
PROS
- Visuals are stunning, not low resolution mobile port; it was adapted to PC straight from the board game and actually is nicer than the boardgame. Better adaptation than let's say Talisman as well.
- Multiplayer (online, hotseat and mix and match multiple human players with Ai's too)
- Tutorials to teach the basics, easy to learn, even if it looks a little heavy, it's simple really.
- A little more strategy, it's a little bit more like a game between Elder Sign and the board game Eldritch Horror (but set in The Witcher universe), because you have to think about movement and gathering clues and money to complete quests and side quests.
- 4 Characters to play focus on different methods of play and each have their unique dice. Not every character has the same strength and weaknesses, it is MUCH more develloped than Elder Sign.
- Locations to move to like in Eldritch Horror, not just missions to pick from the board.
- More strategy in play.
CONS
- Not the lovecraft universe (for me it is a con, but that is relative to what you like, I am just more enthralled with Lovecraft stuff)
- Not many cons I can think of... I mean, it's basically a dice game, where you try and give yourslef better odds.
PROS/CONS (depends what you like)
- NOT Co-operative. You do not fight other players, but do not help them. It is a race for points, each player can have a little bit of effect on another, but it is more indirect.
- You can decide on 3 game lengths ( race to 1, 3 or 5 points) 1 and 3 points is maybe closer to elder sign in my own experience. May vary per person.
That's what I can think of for now... let me know.
i play theses games, i think you could be interested :
- elder sign omens
- tharsis
- talisman digital edition
- space hulk and space hulk ascension
- the curious expediton
- darkest dungeon
- xcom
- call of chtulhu : wasted land
- qvadriga
- dungeon of the endless
- elder sign omens (have)
- tharsis (have)
- talisman digital edition (have)
- space hulk and space hulk ascension (have, but not ascension)
- the curious expediton (will add to wishlist)
- darkest dungeon (don't have)
- xcom (had; finished twice, anxious for Xcom 2!)
- call of chtulhu : wasted land (I did not try yet, because it looked like a bad mobile port)
- qvadriga (will check)
- dungeon of the endless (have)
Another board game adaptation I enjoy, that has the similar dice mechanics is Blood Bowl 1 and 2.
Warhammer quest is also another boardgame, but I find it a little bit too basic for the style of game.
Do you also play real boardgames?
Small World 2 is a pretty fun digital board game that supports solo play, couch co-op and online play. The real board game has so many pieces to clean up.. takes as long to setup/clean as it does to play. lol
2 other board games (probably seen on Tabletop too) are:
Ticket to Ride - solo, co-op, online
Catan - decent but has roll lists.. see my note below
Some alternative board games to consider:
Witcher board game
100% Orange Juice
Armello
I used to like Talisman and then I found out all the rolls are predetermined in a roll list (poor design to me.. I prefer luck of the dice roll WHEN I roll)
you play this game ? it's good compare to Elder Sign ?
If you want a kewl game to play get "Six Gun Saga" by Crypic Comet and MYiii mod if it's still listed there. I made it one of the toughest games around. Try to survive and win a 25 turn game or less with the recommended character. :))
Digital version of Betrayal at House on the Hill would also be nice.
Betrayal would be good but not sure how that would work. It would have to be multiplayer to translate well to PC.
There's a certain RNG element there, you can create your own team of explorers, encounter various events that you solve either by dice roll (more of a roulette, but same thing really), or the skills of people in your party.
It's a very nice game visually and I personally enjoy it a lot.
