And believe it or not, 60fps on N64 was done on occasion when prioritized. F-Zero X managed to run a steady 60fps basically at all times.
If this game was 60fps you wouldn't complain. Based on above, you probably wouldn't have even noticed.
great game at a buttery smooth 1920x1080 60fps crisp like the gods intended
That's good for sure. Tho I should clarify, I don't hate that the game is 30fps and found it perfectly playable (I still enjoy Bloodborne and that framerate is arguably worse). 60fps would be an improvement, but my enjoyment doesn't hinge on it.
It was people suggesting 30fps was a needed element for the 'authentic' N64 aesthetic. 60fps N64 games existed, and Corn Kidz 64 was otherwise designed to be like how you "remember" N64 games, not how they actually were. Other games similar to Corn Kidz (like Cavern of Dreams) run at 60fps without ruining the retro aesthetic at all. Plus many N64 platformer games actually ran at 20fps, not 30, such as CK64's biggest inspiration, the Banjo Kazooie games.
The authenticity argument rapidly falls apart when thought about to any degree. My post more so came from an appreciation of everything that went into CK64 to invoke N64 games without actually dealing with the limitations, with the 30fps limit being the odd exception.
It's why 2D games on those platforms still ran at 60FPS as they were not very demanding to run, and it's also the reason why many PS2/GameCube/XBOX games ran at 60FPS as those were much more powerful systems that were far more capable of rendering 3D graphics. But it seems like the current generation of consoles made people start getting used to 30FPS games again for some reason, even though we supposedly left that behind in the PS2 era.
Likewise, PCs in 2024 are more than capable of running retro throwback games like this at higher than 30FPS. We saw this with not just Cavern of Dreams like the previous post mentioned, but also Super Kiwi 64. Lunistice, another 3D platformer with PS1/Saturn style graphics, plays at 60FPS with a 20FPS mode as an option despite the console it was trying to mimic having most of its 3D games at 30FPS.
if you are actually playing at a locked 30, you should not be getting tearing. something is going on that you are missing, it seems.

I see, I indeed was missing the option. I feel like the way that's set up is a little confusing and could be made more clear potentially. I very much appreciate the reply!
