***Version 1.029***

---PS4, PS5 controller support
Make sure Steam Input for Playsation is enabled under "view controller settings" or in controller settings menu (there called "Playstation Controller Support").

---Switch Pro and other non-Xinput controller support
From Steam controller settings select "enable Steam input" for "Switch Pro" or "Generic Controllers".

---N64 controller support
Make sure "enable Steam input for generic controllers" is set to on (if using a more recent controller this may not be needed) then setup the N64 controller from "test device inputs" in Steam controller menu. Assign the buttons as follows (skip the ones not shown):
A = A
X = B
B = C down
L analog up/down/left/right = analog up/down/left/right
R analog left/right = C left/right
R analog up/down = D-pad up/down (skip if it doesn't let you assign to d-pad)
L shoulder button = L
L trigger = Z
R shoulder button = C up
R trigger = R
start (AKA: "right center button") = start

If (like me) it won't let you assign the right analog X-axis to the C-pad then assign D-pad left/right to C-pad left/right instead then make sure the "D-Pad right analog" option is turned on in the launcher menu.

If (also like me) the analog stick is only at half sensitivity (not because it's worn out but because that is just how it's detected) then turn on the "analog sensitivity X2" option in the launcher menu.

If (due to apparent bug in Steam setup) it causes the A button to be assigned to both A and D-pad left then turn on "ignore d-pad X axis" option in the launcher menu.

---"detect controller 1 only" option
This if for if you are experiencing the analog seeming to move on it's own due to conflict with other devices on your PC (this could also be due to not having the inputs setup in Steam controller settings, though). Make sure you only have 1 controller turned on when using this or that the controller you want to use is detected as the first one.

---keyboard controls
Don't do it. This is only for if you can't reach your controller to quit or whatever.
Controls are ASDFZXCV, directional keys and enter.

---vsync
Use this option (on the launcher) if your display is running at 60hz (most do), if not it may cause the game to run in fast forward unless you limit the framerate to 30 manually. If you have a display above 60hz and still want to use vsync one of the following options should work:
-switch your display mode to 60hz (if your monitor supports it)
-use a framerate limiting option in the gfx card menu to limit the framerate to 30fps
-turn on vsync in gfx card menu while leaving it off in the game launcher

---re-enable the launcher
If you turned off the launcher and want it back you can restore it pressing SHIFT + L during the game and then saving and it should return next time you open.

---about graphics modes
240a = default mode, best for standard display
240b = heavier scanlines, this mode looks the closest to actual N64 though you may need to set your monitor to a higher brightness level to compensate the scanlines
240c = same but with slight rgb mask
240blur = vertical scanlines, looks a bit hazier, maybe a little more dream-like
240noscan = turn off scanlines if you hate them for some strange reason
3D = 3D mode for 3D displays, best possible mode provided you have the display for it. Should work in VR as well. You need to set the display to side by side mode. Convergence can be changed between 4 presets with F1 key, default preset is designed for projector display.
3Dnoscan = same but with no scanlines and higher resolution
360noscan = mode more similar to other modern fake-retro games with a bit higher resolution though still pixely
1080 = HD mode like on an emulator, not recommended (this mode only available when widescreen is set to on)
1080neon = HD mode that still tries to match the haziness of the 240 modes (this mode only available when widescreen is set to on)

Thanks for the info!

Devs check out shadowman remastered or rune so you can see how a 3d platformer can control really well on pc. Until then it looks fun but I ain't buying this.

Hat in time also controls beautifully on pc, what's the reasoning behind this?

My ps4 controller doesn't work, but I can actually play on keyboard, even though it's not supported. What the heck is going on?

Did you do what it says in the first post above under PS4/PS5 controller support? If so try testing it in the Steam controller settings under "test device inputs".

Using an 8bitdo controller, and it doesn't want to work in either Xbox or Switch mode. I've enabled Steam Input, but still nothing. I'll see if it's just my laptop, but yeah, I'm stumped. Steam is showing input, given I can use Big Picture with it, but nope, not the game itself.

What should I map my USB N64 controller to if Steam is showing the Playstation controller for mapping? Above seems to be for Xbox mapping.

Nevermind. Used my brain. Took a second. Love this game btw.

I really want to play this game but my dualshock just doesn't work, checked the styme settings on the guide and it just doesn't work, tested the controller inside steam and it only sees 1 button on the touchscreen why. While entering the game pressing right - left, similar to the up down movements of the cross bar

If you are using "test device inputs" in the Steam settings and it doesn't show the inputs working try the "setup device inputs" button.

Also if trying to use bluetooth make sure the connection is good and if not try it through USB.
