Man you Windows 7 guys are a bunch of whiny, entitled cry babies. You know there was a chance this game may not officially support Windows 7 (because many new games don't) and you still decided to pre-order. That's 100% on you. No one is forcing you to pre-order, it's not like Steam will run out of downloads. Croteam didn't wrong you in any way, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Newer games like Halo MCC and Gears 5 support Win 7 even though they're published by Microsoft, and most recently Doom Eternal which came out in March. These devs realized that there's a considerable portion of the PC gaming community that still use Win 7, it will get eventually get outdated but it will be kicking at least for the remainder of this year (or even the next), now that Croteam decided to not support it is something else, but if would be good if they realized that as i said before, people still use it, considering most indie developers have a better open mind than most triple a studios.
No need to be harsh.
But the arogance of even saying "it would be good if they realized" is astonishing. Of course they "realized". But it also takes time and people to test it properly on ALL variable system configurations with W7 (good luck with that). And then you find a bug in anything, like miserable support for 4K, different approach to thread-scheduling, zero support for Ryzen boosting, another bug in NVIDIA drivers because they don't test it properly on W7 as well.
And then WHAT?
Cavemans take their clubs and will go to crusade "but they promised it will work". So let's get this weird onobtainable configuration, somewhere, to test it and spend even more time (money) because of selfish people who have the option to fix their own problems but rather then that they will troll on EVERY game forum how they value their privacy.
So let's be honest. You've made your choice. Nothing wrong with that. But honor your choice and deal with consequences of that choice. And if you are at least somewhat decent then learn to respect theirs.
It may and probably will work. They just don't want to take responsibility for your decisions.
You nailed it. I remember a similar example about Office 2003. People refused to upgrade to the 2007 version because of the new and unusual interface. And now they continue to use free analogues that use the familiar, but outdated interface, devoid of many new features.
These people were stuck in the past for the sake of convenience, while the rest of the world left the comfort zone and continued to develop.
