With all the Adobe hate, can anyone recommend an alternative?
This was pointed out to me as an option for creating visual representations of characters for other work (book characters, screenplay characters, etc), and for that purpose the idea stuck out as a pretty cool piece of software for my fiancé to use. Is there another bit of software y'all would recommend as a good alternative to this?

There’s nothing wrong with the ADobe FUSE CC. It’s currently still in beta, it is still free and the auto rigger and animation are free to use. The “hate” you’re seeing here is the disappointment most shared when Mixamo sold out to Adobe and abandoned Steam in all regards. FUSE CC requires you to have an ADobe Creative Cloud account. That’s it.

There are alternatives;
* Make Human (Free and Opensource)
* Daz Studio (Software Free, Extra Content requires :money:)
* Morph3D (Software Free, Some free content rest costs :money:)
* iClone 6 (Requires :money: for base software and extra content, though extra content is cheaper then Daz)

For Games All 4 can be used (though Morph3D is Unity3D Only at the moment)
iClone and Daz Studio require game/export licenses if used in a game.

If your making a comic book, Daz Studio is the best option.
If your Making Animations iClone is the better.

It's "still in beta" for 3 years and didnt have any progress in this period. Am I not right?

I think MORPH 3D have some connections to DAZ 3D. It uses old DAZ models (Genesis 2)

I think makehuman with commonity assets is ok for game prototypes. Seen one game done with it.

Seen lots of DAZ 3D models in adult games as prerendered images / videos. Seen only few game that uses 3D models.

Daz have pretty good marketplace of content but it seems to be cheaper than IClone 7 marketplace or packs to character creator but these packs seems to be larger that DAZ so hard to compare. In IClone marketplace there are also cheaper assets but these also have less clothes etc.

It seems there are offers for IClone 7.

Morph 3D is an offshoot of Daz 3D, in that the models are already made compatible with a game engine, using a straight Daz model would require a LOT of tweaking of character models.

Daz3D is better for Pre-rendered use, as using the models in games requires work and a lot of tweaking.

In iClone, the models are game compatible out the door, but you'll need the exporter (Pipeline edition) to export the models into games.

Now For Game development, Morph3D already includes the game export licenses,
For Daz you need to buy indie or Commercial Game dev license(s) from Daz and Other artists that use use content from, buy one license you get export to all their content for anything where models are used outside of Daz.
For iClone you need to buy the export license for EACH piece you want to use outside of iClone.

DAZ changed their licensing to poduct specific. If you laready got indie or commercial license then you don't need to buy new licenses. it's usually additional 50 usd per product or product package and some products don't have these.

I'm using DAZ ja Morph 3D models for hobby gamredev. Morph 3D have all materials right. I think I need to write script for DAZ to export materials to Unity. Currently I need to copy paste normal maps etc.

I'm wondering should I buy IClone 7. it's about same price as ZBrush that I got few years back.
Edit:
Do you know if IClone do clothing rigging on the fly or is clothes prerigged?

Go with Zbrush, iClone is more an Animation tool then a cloth rigging tool.

Fuse CC not working on my machine at all and it seems I'm not the only one. IMO better stick with the old Steam version and the browser import/export option
