Power Word silence
Can someone explain how this wizard spell is meant to work?

As I understand, the spell targets one creature. The target (and only the target) is supposed to get silenced. There is no AoE effect.

I ask because I'm noticing that when I use this spell on an enemy wizard, my own sorc (who casts it) gets silenced instead/as well (I can't really tell if the enemy wizard also got silenced). According to the text log, it's only my own wizard that gets silenced.

Is this spell just broken, or is there something going on that I'm not noticing (the text log doesn't show any triggering of enemy contingencies, etc.), or am I just not using it right?

I'm playing the black pits II.

Enemy wizard probably cast Spell Turning on himself/herself before you PW'ed him/her.

It's fairly pointless to be honest. Most enemy mages have a vocalize or two memorized (it can be cast while silenced) and will simply ignore it even if it does stick. It's really only worthwhile vs clerics or druids since their options for countering it are much more limited.

Though, yeah, as above they probably have spell turning.

Spell Turning is probably it. I cast remove magic, followed by breach, then silence. Assumed the first two would get rid of any protections like that but I guess not.

Yeah, spell turning is considered a spell protection, rather then a standard magical effect, so you need a spell protection remover that can remove it.

Technically dispel magic SHOULD be able to get rid of most spell protections (if it succeeds based on caster level difference) but they (bioware) were kind of lazy in that regard since it would make certain things more complicated, so only spell protection removers can remove spell protections (but they do so without fail as long as the spell protection is one they can remove).
