What are the best BG2 EE mods?
As of April 29 2025 what would you say are still the most ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY mods every player should have?

Just double checking to see if any new stuff had been added, or there are still some good mods I don't know about.

Unfinished Business, Dungeon-B-Gone (if you want to skip Irenicus's dungeon) and the Questpack.
THe Gibberling 3 Mega pack.

It seems down right impossible to me to answer that.

Question would rather be: What kind of mod are you searching for ? What would you like to add to the game ? If you can give us your taste then we can give you choices.

Doesn't the enhanced edition add in alot of stuff from unfinished business? What about the quest pack though?

I do have the SCS mod and the TOB extension mod made by one of the original designers.

I mean more fun or complex mechanics, good QoL, stuff like that.

This and personally, only this, as it works. Its a little clunky at first, but in general, its just list where you can add "yes or no" (with some variancies here and there) to add up or switch game mechanics. It also can make the game harder at some points, which does not let you cheat fights against mages, by just breaking their defences, before the fight even began, which is more frustrating at first, but all in all, the supposed idea at least for me.

I would personally not add anything else, as other mods seem to interfer.
Ascension
IWDificiation
Check the bodies (mostly for the assets to broaden your options in near infinity)
Strategems
Fade, Isra, Kelsey, Adrian, Xan
Artisans kitpack
IEP banters?
Crossmod banter pack

Well… SCS is mostly aiming to make the game much harder, definitely not for beginners. Is that your kind of taste you’re looking for ? But while there are other mods increasing the difficulty I am very sure that SCS will make it as hard as possible already.

And I guess the other mod you’re talking about is „Ascension“ by David Gaider (nowadays it’s refreshed by others, of course). Just make sure you install that before SCS and you get the latest versions. Now both these mods are top quality, that is true. But both of them are old, very old actually, the originals back 25 years. Yes to your question: There are new mods, equally good as these (some even better). Only problem: There are many hundreds. Doesn’t make much sense to talk about all of theme here. :-) That’s why I was asking if you are interested in anything specific. Your description „more fun“ and the like tells me you don’t have any specific ideas, obviously. That’s alright, of course.

Maybe just take an hour and browse through here for sparking ideas:

Unfinished Business is absolutely mandatory. Personally, I won't play without CD Tweaks, just to personalize the game, but would never use them all. I like the Friendship mods too. Extra banters and flavor.

Really, nothing else is. The rest is all your play preferences. Do you want more NPCs? (Amber, BG1 NPCS in BG2). Harder? (SCS and Ascension.) Bigger? Lots of options. But none that are absolutely mandatory.

I play with a lot of mods, maybe too many. It's all about style. But a word of warning: Too many that add XP (quests) or mega items and you will totally nerf the core game. Just to try it out, I installed Golem-building this time. It's fun and makes the early stages a lot harder. But once you can build mega-goelms?: Game Over. So, be careful.
Hidden Gameplay Options - Mostly for the one option to have targetting circles for AoE spells.

I dont reccomend dungeon be gone, though i deeply understand why people use it.
However i dont want to mess up scripts or miss Adrian, so if you wanna have it done quick give yourself godbows and teleport around

Wouldn't use pointless NPC mods, they often have the old code, hastily converted to somehow work with EE and are usually script-heavy, that it's easy to break other aspects of yer game.
Easier to start a MP-solo game, add proper NPcs to your liking and switch it to a 'solo' game by copying the save over.
Less is often more.

- Unfinished Business
- Rogue Rebalance
- Item Revision (closer to PnP, but might shift the balance of some items or make broken OP stuff less OP - Carsomyr is still OP and so is the silly katana. Coolest change is prolly the Silver Sword - it get's a decapitation procc, as per rules. That thing is now insane)
- spell Revision (it's actually insane how this boost up the druid or makes low-level spells way more usefull)
- CDTweaks (for some QoL stuff)
- SCS
----------------------
From beamdog's board:
- Lightning pack (gamma/brightness correction)
- HQ soundclips
- lefreut's Enhanced UI

That's all am using.

edit: stay away from redone old Weimar mods. they are all broken (EE tactics or improved crafting - they mess up a lot of sh*t)

Haha, thanks for the jest :> haven't gotten any in a while.
NPC mods are literal garbage! lol
Easier to install level1NPC.....and use the proper ingame NPC

This isn't even remotely true. Tactics Remix has been completely remade from the ground up to work on the EEs. It is incredibly stable and works well with a whole host of mods.

Shall I show you the code, that has been removed?

I know it is working stable, but they removed some of the old stuff - because, the script-check while installing skips a few things because of lazy work. Most of it does work....but not all.

And installing tactics & SCS is blatant stupid. SCS includes already all the weimar changes, but it's working as intended.
So no grasping at straws....why using a sh*t-ton outdated mod, if a perfectly working mod already includes it, with an active modding community on top of it.

It even gives you the option to install the SCS-tuned version or the weimar hardcore variant.

all those silly script-snippets get added on top of each other.

edit: I only wanted the 'better city encounter' sub-mod and that is removed and skipped. The script added then is empty and does literally NOTHING!

tbh; you install tactics only, if you want duplicates of some very bonkers items. It's literal cheese.

Lich in the docks?
The caster thingie in the docks?

the loot? lol

Sounds like you are looking at the wrong thing. There was a Tactics attempt for the EEs that was never finished. There is also Tactics Remix where I was given permission from Weimer to make. Modern Tactics works just fine on the EE's without any issues.
