Summon as many Magic Swords as your Mages can muster (they are +4) Haste the party and swords, everyone equips a +3 weapon, even if they aren't proficient, summon the Balor and all out attack till it's dead. Should take less than 3 rounds
1. Resist Fear
2. Protection from Evil
3. Free Action or Protection/Dispel(?) petrification
Your mage must capable to cast Breach or Spell Pierce.
And if you want to deal extra slap to balor flat ass, cast haste, I don't remember exactly what's my warrior thac0, but it should be able to hit the damn thing around 1-5 thac0 (my main char was dual class thieff so by the time I got to underdark my thaco still around 6-7 main hand and 7-8 off hand, all the pips on longsword proficiency and two weapon fighting).
Equip your strongest weapon, lilarcor, dragon slayer longsword (which provides immunities).
oh also: Pause a lot. See what Balor does and counter that.
Balor should be no problem.
I imagine its the same sort of principals never had an issue with the underdark balor, underdark gives you a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of XP so I'm not underleveled.
is the balor the one in the gnome village or the one you sacrifice a summon to get a belt of strength?
the one in the gnome village was.... set a bunch of theif traps. cast chaotic commands on everyone. summon a bunch of undead to distract it. maybe mass haste and then chop chop.
the one in the other place probably similiar except I generally run away so the enemies are inside the room and I am not. then I try to fish them out one at a time. again with some undead bone shields. and whatnot. while my fleshy team is a good deal further back ,the undead and their immunites especially at level 15 are just so handy. Can't remember what I used, but they give you a pile of drow crossbows of speed. I dunno would have to check what ranged weapons we have, melf minute meteor is always a good choice.
probably going to give my paladin undead hunter azureedge +3 for his ranged weapon should hit fine.
you can buy firetooth from the drow city. for a +3 throwing dagger. going to have to play this game again for all my options.
which fight *IS* this?
Probably depends on what spells and items you have.
By the time you reach Underdark you should already have decent armor with 0 to -1 armor class. Have some decent weapons (I usually equipped Dragonslayer or any longsword to my fighter main ch to prevent fear or any charming effects).
Must have spells: Breach or/and Lower Resistance.
and the usual combo spells that I always do for every important/hard fights: Cast protection from Evil (Aerie/Viconia are usually capable to cast it), cast bless, cast chant, cast defense harmony, and last but not least: Haste. Always Haste. Haste is OP af.
If you have cleric, always ensure that Resist Fear, remove petrification and remove poison at the ready, you never now when this game pull a big sus baka move on your ass.
Balor is damn hard in my first run, but I killed it in like 1 minutes in my 2nd (also slap the ♥♥♥♥♥ out of Kangaxx lmao)
Also, this may sound stoopid, but if you're in underdark, you might want to buy Shiels of Balduran to fight against certain enemy, if you equip this shield against that enemy on one of your party member, he/she can basically solo the entire dungeon.
with the summons soaking hits, any sort of damage that goes in should probably kill it, melf minute metoer is kinda a go to in BG2 if you don't have anything else that works.
You are fine. Just prepare spells that lower its magic resistance (they stack ) and its saves (greater malison & doom, for example). I run a team where 5 out of 6 are either clerics/ruid or some kind of mages, so it worked. Jaheira's swarms made sure the demon won't cast anything beyond the opening stages of the fight.
seen this flavor of reply in a ton of forum posts online around different points of the game, but I've opened nearly every chest and looted nearly every enemy I kill and simply don't have more than three +3 weapons yet, and one of them is only +3 against undead. Another one of them is from the drow you mentioned. +3 weapon loot simply hasn't shown up often enough. not sure if this is a beamdog enhanced edition flaw or what's goin on tbh
Two year old thead.. and I thought I was the master Necromancer ;]
You must have missed a lot of shopkeepers, quests and containers.
The vendor on top of Watcher's Keep sells two +4 weapons, and there's a further 3x weapons just in the first level of the Keep (Dart, Bastard sword & Scimitar) which are +3 or +4.
Two vendors in the Copper Coronet sell a multitude of +3 weapons.
Vendor in Trademeet has a Club, Shortbow and Long Sword +3
Flail of Ages +3, Longbow +3, Axe +3 - Nalia's Keep
Lilarcor +3 - Sewers beneath Slums
Staff +4 - Adventurer's Mart
Halberd +3 - Beholder lair beneath Temple disctrict.
Longbow +3, Carsomyr +5 - Windspear Hills
Sling +3 - Temple Ruins (Umar Hills)
Sling +4 - Beholder lair in Underdark
Sling +5 - Vendor in Copper Coronet
Hammer +3 - Mind Flayer lair beneath Temple disctrict
Shortword +3 - Quest reward for bringing down Mae'vars Guild hall
Those are just off the top of my head. There's many others..
