Controler support
Long story short, after playing the switch version I no longer like using keyboard and mouse in BG. Is there a mod or some steam configuration that would allow me to mimic the console controls in the steam version ?

Right now both versions of the game have drawbacks:
playing on switch = no mods and playing on PC = only keyboard and mouse. I'm searching for a way to get the best of both.

Yeah. Would be nice if they ported over the console controller support. I will make a profile when I get time and make a thread announcing it.

It's any consol port realy, It just happens that I own the switch version. Basically the console controls have a learning curve but once you get used to them I consider them far superior to the keyboard and mouse combo (and I have been playing BG2 since the time it came on 4 cd's).

You can use the steam controller overlay to set up a profile that works how you want.

The thing is, it won't work how I want (I spend a lot of time playing around with it as it was my first idea to try, the second one was to search for a mod). I can brute force some basic stuff as it will be just remaping keys, but I won't be able to control the party by directly moving the MC with the analogue stick while everyone else is tightly following (which is a godsend in tight dungeons with the pathfinding of the game) as such functionality was never programed in the PC version and the characters only respond to right clicking on a place on the map (on way or the other). It's hard to explain all the small details if you didn't play the console port, but it wasn't just a re-maping of the keyboard/mouse to a gamepad, they programed a lot of shortcuts/functions for the port to make it actually work.

Yes I agree and I was already aware about it : baldur's gate 1&2 need a real controller support, it is not just a story of remaping.

It could be interesting to try the switch version, but unfortunately, no mods on it :(

I play commandos 2&3 HD remastered . These games add a real controller support and not just basics remaping.

Hope baldur's gate 1&2 can benefit one day. So bad that these amazing game don't get it yet. It would surely be very EZ to make it.

Hi - I know this thread is old, but I have a ? - I just got this game, and I have both PC and Steam Deck. My question is, if the controls work on Steam Deck, why not on PC? I use a Razer Xbox controller on PC but if there's no controller support for PC without a ton of remapping that still doesn't cover it all, I will play strictly on the SD if I have to since I have no keyboard game experience. I'd rather play on PC if possible. Thanks in advance for any answers.

I figured it out through your post. I must have missed it when I came here -- Thanks a lot, now I can play it on both Steam Deck and PC and am so totally looking forward to experiencing this game (finally) never got a chance to before when it was out. Appreciate ya!:steamhappy:
