Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

İstatistiklere Bak:
Didnt realize that Neera is useless :/
So I finished BGEE with Neera and she was great for my party and did a lot. Now I play BGEE2 and I cast heal with Aerie and suddenly all party is invisble because of wild surge occured. I then get into a fight and decieded to throw a buff with Jaheria for my party - then wild surge occur and whole party is silenced...

geeez.
Is this just pure unluck? or is she really not worth it?

WTF?!

"every time they cast a spell, there is 5% chance of a Wild Surge, which can have beneficial or disastrous side effects." yet everytime I cast a spell I get f'ed.

Oh wait... im a dummy.

Im in the wild forest - doing the Neera side-quest. Maybe thats why everytime I cast a spell things go wild O_o

Yeah, wild mages only affect their own spells, unless you're in a wild magic zone, like the maze level of the Watcher's Keep.
Wild mages are awesome. Wild magic zones like that forest... not so much.

Neera is quite a good mage, she just need 1 more int.
wild mages are really fun i made one in the 1rst version of TOB and i must have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the rarest most strangest wild surge my mage called forth an army of exploding rabbits and each one had the fireball effect
wild mages are good. i've done things like increased damage doubled up ice storm spells on firkraag and had a couple battles where I battle readied my whole party deep into a long battle against a major boss.

Wild magic Zones on the other hand tend to be more bad effects than anything and affect just about all arcane magic.
Casting Wish
Wild Surge
Area of effect

Thank you Neera.
Yes I will use all 8 of these wishes right now.

LOL Thats sweet lol.

Yeh i love wildmagic so I made a Vampire Druid with a little backstory to explain how a druid was kidnapped and turned by vampires but whos druidic affinity kept his mind pure, he escaped but is "Tainted" thus has wildmagic, and a innate ChaosShield to go with it... added daylight weaknesses and is a "Vampire" in all regards of the word.
(* Also altered some preset chars a little, Minsc has axe skills instead of sword, Jaheria is a fighter/mage, as the druid in the party is my druidic vampire *)...
Adds more credence to the Hexxat mission with the "Whos cloak" bit :D
I ignored most of the Enhanced Edition characters for a fair bit, normally letting them tag along for their quests and that's it.

But last time I played BG2 I fell in love with Neera, both her silly personality and her utility as a mage. I think 5% chance to do weird things is worth the trade-offs. Nahal's Reckless Dweomer is awesome - cast any spell that you know? Don't even need memorized? Dayum, sign me up.
Nahal's Reckless Dweomer is severly overpowered once you get improved chaos shield.
And by severly, I mean severly.
"Yeah, just let me cast 8 Dragon Breath in one round, ok ?"

If I recall, wild surges drop in frequency as the mage gets more experience levels. Also, don't cast ANY spells from ANYONE inside the Wild Forest!

Also, get Neera the Robe of Goodman Hayes; it's a permanent Chaos Shield. I can't remember Neera getting ANY wild surges after we got to ToB, with her wearing that robe. So at that point, she had access to NRD, with all the spell slots of a specialty mage, but able to learn any spell without restrictions. And had basically little or no chance of having the spell go awry. Second best mage in the game, after Edwin, and that's only because of his amulet.

I gave her the Robe of Vecna. Improved Chaos Shield lasts for a certain amount of hours, unlike the regular Chaos Shield. As long as you don't forget to cast it, it's not necessary. :D
OK, I never got the Robe of Vechna, so the point never arose for me. Having the Robe of not-so-good Goodman Hayes means not having to worry about improved shield wearing off. But if it works for you, go with it.

The main point is that Neera, used properly, is seriously effective as a mage. And has pink hair!

Hayes' robes only give you the regular Chaos Shield. Improved Chaos Shield is, well, better, as the name implies. Adds 25 ( instead of 15 ) to a Wild Surge roll. Also lasts for 2 hours, plenty of time to do stuff.

Higher wild surge rolls end up in more benefactory results ( or at least less damaging to yourself ), so why take the chance? Robe of Vecna then serves to considerably shorten casting time, making for a much more effective mage.

Using properly, you said? :D
The Robe of Vecna can be used by any mage, not just Neera. It would benefit Edwin equally well. However, I have never bought any of Dierdre's stuff. Too expensive for my blood; I spent most of my cash on getting items upgraded by Cromwell. Hence the question of which robe Neera should wear never arose.

Improved Chaos Shield is a level 7 spell, which Neera doesn't even get access to until she's level 14. It's really only needed when casting NRD. Actually, it wasn't needed at all at the time I did my first SoA run through. At that time, the Hayes Robe's effects stacked with the regular Chaos Shield spell. This, alas, appears to have been an unintended effect/bug, which looks to have been corrected presently from what I have read.

The Thayan Circlet is another useful item for her, in ToB.

Earlier today I've posted in the BGEE forum that I also like Neera and her different voice in Siege of Dragonspear. That's because as in the two older games, she fills her character with life, and the extra voice-acting during her personal quest adds to that much.
Neera is easily the best mage after Edwin. If you don't want an evil mage in your party, she's the go-to option.

Wild surges can be rough, but usually the worst thing that happens is silence which is easily countered by Vocalize.
