So who says that you HAVE to bring Imoen along? OK, you do need to go to Spellhold to rescue her in order to progress the story but hey! Maybe she was always an annoying brat and you hate her guts. Tell her to get lost once you free her.
She has a good balance on her and gets better with magic as you go. You NEED a thief and Jan gets a bit annoying at times. Imoen has "just good enough stats" with her thieving skills to last the rest of the game, plus a ton of spells.
I make the thieves have only the check for traps script on constantly. The others can do well enough with the right one, but thieves should be checking for traps all the time and when it comes to battle, I direct them manually, with Imoen mostly just casting magic. I tend to take over the clerics prior to a battle to give the correct defenses. The fighters? I direct them at the right prey first and then leave them alone unless needed. Imoen also tends to have the "wide area affect" spells like fireball and ice storm.
What I consider cheats? Easy. Ones that give you way overpowered equipment or spells or any equipment for that matter. If suddenly you all have boots of speed, it makes the finding of another hohum and ruins the experience. Ones that give you God power and you can't take damage is another.
Many people don't understand the difference between certain mods and cheats.
Mods that give you a new area to explore are not cheats, but a mod that gives you a new area that's easy...IDK, all you face are goblins and kobolds and you get a +100 Holy Avenger or something are a cheat.
Mods that give you a complex new character are not cheats...hell, the new character may be more trouble than it's worth, but a mod giving you "Superman" for a new character who has every class or whatever and is master of everything is a cheat.
Mods that correct glitches are NOt cheats by any means. I used to really play Oblivion and mods came in that fixed more issues than the developers themselves. Some would introduce new enemies to fight, areas to explore, etc. About then, Bethesda noticed and said, "Hmm...some of these modders are super talented" and hired them for Skyrim.
It takes you and your views on morality and what is fair to decide on what's a cheat and what is not. It's actually easy to do this. Plus, if you're using cheats only in a single player game, then who cares? It's your game to do whatever with. BUT, I take a hard line when it comes to multiplayers, especially those when you're in competition with other players. The fact that cheats are so commonplace makes a person feel like using them in multi are "no big deal" when in fact, they are.
Aside from the fact this thread is called Tricks you use and NOT Cheats I will let it slide and indulge :).
EE actually closed many of the exploits available in vanilla version of the game. Off the top of my head Multiple Exp instances when you should only get one no longer work.
The scroll/potion trick no longer works.
Instances of 2 items no longer work. If you steal from Tolgarias he won't be carrying another Ring when he shows up at the sphere. No more 2x Ring of Gaxx (damn). Interestingly the only instances of stealing twice (Rings of Acuity) that still works is with Lavok before he turns hostile and after he dies. Terminsel also can be stolen from everytime he shows up.
Killing Renal in Chapter 6 is legit though. His door guard remains friendly for some reason.
