Tricks you use, NOT cheats
I've noticed one trick I haven't seen mentioned, although it probably is someplace. What I'd like to do is compile these tricks and/or easter eggs for easy reading.

1. Always use potions of Mind Focusing to always learn the spells with 100% success.

2. Always sell your "excess" gear at the same place if possible. This way you easily know where to buy it back if it's something you need later. This one applies to most RPGs.

3. The pause button is your friend..the pause button is your friend...the pause button is your friend

4. If you're not sure how a spell works, ask around about it on the forums. I admit when I'm ignorant and always glad to do so as it aids the learning process.

5. This may be my opinion only but: First priority to buy is gem bags, scroll cases, etc. Anything that stores excess gear. Unless you just like leaving valuable loot behind because you lack the space.

6. Let's say you find extra scrolls of a spell and all your spellcasters already know it. Erase it from one you're currently using from it's spellbook and "relearn" it. Extra Xp

7. Finding Traps is great not only to prevent damage, but extra xp as well. And yes, the game is filled with traps.

8. Use Scrolls of Undead Protection to get the Ring of Gaxx early.

9. For infinite money sell something to the guy in the temple sewers, steal it back and sell it again.

Hell's Bells! Looks like I was mistaken about Roger the Fence. He has a boatload of potions but no potion case. In my current run, had to run to Sister Whazzername atop WK in order to buy one.

Let me be up front...sorry for bold but I LOVE COLLECTING ITEMS. I don't care if it's decoration, I'm a collector nutjob. The Glasses I knew nothing about and thanks for showing that one.
I often use the library at D'Arnise estate to store excess papers and books.

The glasses are indeed quite useful. Also, you don't have to go trudging all the way back to the Keep to park your excess junk; there are plenty of empty boxes, barrels etc. all over the place you can use for storage. Heck, you can just drop it on the floor of the Copper Coronet; there is no janitor so it stays there forever.

I second the suggestion to always sell stuff at the same place, so you know where it is. In my first runthrough, I almost sold the item you need to upgrade Ravager to OP super weapon status; it's not always obvious what dingus you need for such things.
Very true. I also play King's Bounty series and it's super wise to always sell excess spells in the same place for the very same reason. If only the items were that way in it....They disappear after selling. Later on in the games you might need one of those spells for a quest or something.

Heh, some of the items in KB can be upgraded but you have to fight the items guardians. They're some of the same creatures in it plus "Gremlin Towers", that do various things with a Gremlin standing on top. Some items in KB even have morale and once it hits 0, you have to fight it's guardians as well.

Hexxat seems to just be too problematic, especially for a good aligned party. Hell, she left mine after almost no time in the game.
frdnwsm 28 ENE 2016 a las 16:29
I never use Hexxat in a good party; it makes no sense RP wise. For the same reason, I always make MyChar true neutral. That way I can work with a group of any alignment. But I try to keep them more or less consistent. A group with evil characters is all evil; well, except for neutral me, of course. A good party is all good/neutral. This tends to avoid things like internecine conflicts.
BenSt88 28 ENE 2016 a las 21:21
"Seriously? I always make sure I have multiple saves at frequent intervals, if nothing else to protect against game crashes/computer problems.

There are certain folks Hexxat can't work with. Anomen and Keldorn are obvious. I hadn't known about Mazzy, but it makes a bit of sense as she is lawful good and considers herself sort of a halfling Paladin.

So how did the game explain why Hexxat leaves? I doubt Mazzy had wooden stakes, so she should regenerate in 24 hours if you have the coffin bag. Does she make any comment during or after the fight? She gets annoyed at being turned gaseous form? What happens if you dismiss Mazzy from the party? Does she return? How does the bag just vanish from your backpack or whatever?

Heck, go back and replay if the items you lost are significantly valuable. If this is your 4th runthrough you should be able to recover the lost ground fairly easily."

Of course I had multiple saves, but the point was, I wanted Mazzy in this playthrough more than Hexxat. Her quests were fun in a prior game, but apparently those 2 were never going to get along. When they fought, they literally left my party and control. Mazzy wins and sticks around; I talk to her to get her back in the party...but Hexxat is gone for good as far as I can tell. Along w/ her Bag of Holding. I didn't lose too much I couldn't do w/out. I haven't checked the Copper Coronet to see if she returns there. If she has, I can get her back long enough to recover my items. Otherwise...that's life. Jan is a great replacement in many respects, so it's all good...
Shadowcran 28 ENE 2016 a las 23:14
In mine, she said we weren't doing anything that interested her and left. Np, I kept the bag of holding.

I'm going through some walkthroughs and I don't understand why some of the stuff in SPellhold is missing from their explanations. There was this area with 12 faces, each with a riddle, answer them all and get a Ring of Regeneration. ...which has come in very handy. In the area where you answer 4 questions to 4 nobles, on the table is a Cloak of Reflection. Neither of these were mentioned.

The riddles were easy enough.

What ticked me off and is the only place I sought help for was lack of a place to buy/sell goods in Brynnlaw. Frustrated, I looked it up and found a place..why wasn't it on the in game map? I'd just gotten Imoen and needed some spells for her to learn plus I had a bag of holding full of stuff to sell. Wait a sec...now that I think on it, none of those walkthroughs(I only consulted after I had finished to see if maybe I missed something...I didn't)mentioned the friggin' Bag of Holding you get to the left of the entrance and up the stairs in Spellhold. That's like failing to mention in Pokemon the object is to collect Pokemon..

They also failed to mention the stuff you got from killing 1. A mindflayer(2 Handed Sword, Flame of the North 2. A spirit Troll(special Katana of Mishakker? +2) and 3...which I can't recall, but got something..I think it was a club with +2 and +3 vs undead. These 3 and an Umber Hulk were behind doors with their picture on them which opened when you had the paintings of them. The Umber Hulk dropped nothing.

- Fireseed and Greater Deathblow kills groups of enemies as the deathblow is transferred to the AoE of Fireseed allowing you to mow down huge groups of low level enemies like trolls and umber hulks in 1 hit. Works well with Jaheira as her THaC0 is pretty decent at later levels.

- Another trick you can do with Jaheira is Harm then use Critical Strike which guarantees a hit. Works wonders on Dragons: Sequencers 3x lower resistence, Harm, Critical Strike = 1 HP dragon :). Harm is actually insanely OP because there is NO saving throw unlike Finger of Death etc.
Shadowcran 29 ENE 2016 a las 4:28
That's a much better guide. However, it didn't mention the table and the Cloak of Reflection. Seriouslly, I bet it's due to "checking tables" yielding only a few gp or nothing throughout the game.
****Question: After you do the Spellhold and all that, will you have a chance to go back to Athkatla? I left some quests remaining.

I DID save it before I went into Chapter 4 though. I can always go back if I wanted.

Yes, you can go back. you have to, actually
Shadowcran 29 ENE 2016 a las 5:13
Thank you. The reason I went on was due to getting Imoen and wanting some quests she could get xp in.

Everyone has been extra helpful in this thread. Thanks again to all of you. The only way I can repay is if you play something I'm sort of a master with, like the King's Bounty series.

Note that any items that you want to manufacture or upgrade at Cromwell's have to be done there before you leave Athkatla for good. That idiot Imp in ToB has no "recipes" for anything from SoA. [Crom Feyr for example]

BGTweaks has a mod that lets Cespenar use Cromwells recipes. Don't know if OP considers that a cheat though.

How dare you belittle Cespanar lol, he is the cutest. BGTweaks also makes Cespanar recipes available to Cromwell which can be a little OP if you did go to Watcher's Keep in SoA. Nothing over the top though.

Its definitely a good idea to save some quests for Imoen. Otherwise she will be too low level to be useful for the end game.

There is a really fun mod called the Sellswords for Chapter 6. Really well done with voice acting. Challenge is balanced for chapter 6. You will get 1 OP sword from it but its not more powerful than any of the ToB weapons.
