how i plan on doing it is going up and down the stairs. I've noticed that mages don't like to go down stairs unless they are solo like Rayric Gethras. The melee dudes follow you down the stairs, and they don't tend to all go as a group, either. I then plan on casting sunfire/melee on them with my kensai mage until they are dead. as for the mages, i'll either pierce magic or breach or dispel them, then melee. As for the summons you just need to use protection from evil on yourself and then attack them until they are dead.

I do not think this will work on LOB difficulty, at least not very well, but i may be wrong.

One can prepare an Ambush downstairs, with a strong 5 summons stand ready, Stinking cloud and webs and more, and have Protections vs those spells on self (freedom, Poison resist and so on) and lure them down. But they are CRAZY strong on LOB, they use Special Invisibility Potions and WILL hurt you if you are ill prepared.

If you manage to split the group, the enemy mage is likely to get a series of strong Buffs on himself, as he remains upstairs for the first rounds (scripted autobuffing), this can go both ways, he is stronger but more alone.

My Strategy for my wizard slayer thread is in the LOB diary section thread. I make use of Jaheiras Pixie dust to get a full round of Massive debuffs on the enemy group while my thief disarm traps, them i am invinsible and can move into the side rooms for monster summoning and even more buffing and debuffing. Then i just walk up and kill them with 6 x dual wielders with auto hits + 5 summons with auto hits. Fight is over in less than a turn and i usually takes little to no damage.

Until i have managed to pacify the whole group i focus on the Katana user, as soon he is dead i pick it up and use it against them. I am of course buffed to the max my party can do before i even start.

There are numerous successful strategies around. This is considered a HARD fight on any normal to insane difficulty, but on LOB you need to get the upper hand or you die. Insane difficulty is super easy in comparison to LOB

Protection from Evil 10' radius is used to simply wait out the monster summonig group you face downstairs, they are crazy hard to kill on LOB, especially the Glabrezu, and they give NO experience. Once the demon group is either dead or de-summoned, you can rest in the rooms downstairs. Once everyone upstairs is dead, you can rest freely here forever, and use the cabinets for personal storage, but there will never come an "innkeeper" here to serve you.

The reference is just that you have a place of your own as you cannot rest inthe streets outside.

Beholders are really hard on LoB... I had to transform myself in Jelly mustard...

The guarded compound sooooo easy...
Invisibility radius, i got hidden in a chamber and Buff and fire elementals and skeletons. I then used improves invisibility on Aerie with Vecna and then used web, stinky cloud, cloudkill and skull trap. With Jaheira i used plagued, and then with Aerie and Jan greater malison and then hold person and Monster... So easy!!

I just went in there myself, with my Kensai -dual Druid that i play just to investigate that opportunity.

My Kensai is lvl 9, 427.000 XP. I planned to dual at 1.250 k, i did that in IWD, but i regret it, and will dual after lvl 10. I dual wield two normal Scimitars (grand mastery + 2 pips in dual weaponry) and have two Longswords (no proficiency) in case Magic is needed. Only Armour is the Barksin spell from Jaheira and the Ring Of Princes (+1 AC/SAves), and that sets an AC of -3. Spells was Prot Evil 10 feet (-2 AC) and Items the Destroyer of Hills Girdle (-4 AC/crushing)

It took a lot of potions, as they were still alive when my spells wore off, but close to death mostly, so i managed to beat the last life out of them.

Yoshimo, lvl 11, died. He did get rid of the traps first but died during the fight. He has only normal Studded Leather and his default Katana and Short bow, 110 Arrows +1, 4 Acid Arrows and 5 Biting Arrows.

Minsc lvl 9, with Splint mail, Helm of Infravision (no effect), Sword of Chaos +2 and two regular maces, barely survived, but came through. His doom spells were crucial.

Jaheira, lvl 8/11. Her Pixie dust, Doom, a few entangles, and her Summon Dryad were essential. The Dryad has a really strong Hold Monster and Confusion, and Hold Person.

Aerie, Cleric/Mage lvl 8/9. Stinking Cloud, Web, Hold Person, Silence 15', Slow, Chromatic Orb, and 3 lesser skeletons. 1 Hold Monster, 4 hold Person, 2 doom.

Just theese 5, barely out of Irenicus Dungeon. But it was hard and took a few reloads. My last time with the Wizard Slayer was far more easy. WS was very strong vs the enemy Priest and Mage, they were both pacified.

Stalman (the Cleric) wiped all of us in one load with a Blade Barrier around him and just ran through my group. Chunked both Yoshimo and Aerie. That Fight sure is scary, and for each new party setup and try, there is some variants to the solutions.

But the Vanilla spells are the key to victory, even more so than before. One "Has" to pacify them and gain control of the battlefield, or one dies.

How you manage to avoid strangle on your own party members? When i use web my party members get caught :S
Zotliatlicor Jan 18, 2021 @ 8:59am
You know that the traps run from the wall to the pillar, and from the pillar to the rail of the stairs. And when you enter, you (or at least i) see only 3 enemies first, the Cleric, the Minotaur and the Ogre.

If you focus the center of Web, Stinking cloud, Malison etc on Stalmann the Cleric, the spells edge will be just outside the traps, and your whole party is on the other side of the traps. Koshi, Ketta and the Mage comes into vision some split seconds later, but they are pretty much in the center of all your initial Spell Blasts.

And when the traps are removed, you have a clear path to the first room. I always take the left stairs from down to up, and crawl into the first room to my right. I always try to diisable both traps, but the important one is the one you move past hugging the wall.

I place my Thief as nr 3 in the Party, that way is usually has access to both traps without moving, but sometimes they swarm so quickly to me that i cant get nr 2 before the invisibility 15' hits.

No, getting 3 skeletons from Aerie or a Cleric takes 3 rounds. So the first 3 rounds is for summoning. Then i edge and cast more diablers into the Zone, and send in the Summons. Skeletons are immune to the stink, they can be webbed, but that doesnt matter. Their job is to hold the focus from the enemies. Then i can edge in and cast Doom on the onces i see, and Hold Person/Monster/Blind/Silence/Chro-Orb and more while i use ranged on the spellcasters.

When a Mob is held, it gets full focus from all, Party and Summons. I recast Disablers as needed, Slow/Stinking Cloud/Web/Doom/Entangle/Blind as needed. A Blind Mage or Cleric is pretty much disabled. I try to hit an enemy with Doom first, then spells like Ch-Orb and Blind. My last party did not have Greater Malison, but that is a super important spell to land if you have it.

I had one game where i Blinded the Mage, and he just stood there, didn't do anything at all.

Otilukes sphere can remove one enemy for a decent time too. There are several spells that can work. Did i mention Jaheiraæs Dryad? She is a potent Spellcaster, and i tend to have to memorized in such big battles.

And enabling the AoE cursor shadow effect in the .Lua file of course is a godsend as to not hitting my own party with Web's, but i have cast so many Web's that i know its radius by heart. More difficult with spells that have a larger or lesser radius than 15', and Cones & Sprays.

Yes, i know. I always do: greater malison Jan, web and stinky and cloudkill with Aerie, then i put AI off and Buff my party with Aerie and Jaheira while i summon skeletons and blind enemy casters. When web, stinky and cloudkill is over I turn on AI and send the fighters (my Gnome F/I, Jaheira and Minsc -i dont like Minsc, im planning to change It but i dont know by who, in ToB i Will put S-.)
