The Best Romance Option for BG2EE

I have played this game for far too long, and seemingly every way, but the only romance option that really fits and always delivers for the Child of Bhaal is Dorn. Hands down, every time. It doesn't matter if you play a male or female character, the class or race of the character you play, or your playing style. His conversations with other party members are everything you would expect. His expectations for his romantic partner fit his personality to a "T." From the time he begins talking to Charname in BGEE and all the way through BG2EE Throne of Bhaal, he is the only romance option that unconditionally appreciates the Child of Bhaal. His pure love of destruction, carnage, bloodshed, and mayhem borders on the sublime. The fact that he wants to take his lover right there and then in the middle of a battle, that he revels in the transformation of the main character into a killing abomination of death, and that he never flinches from or second guesses the storm of bloodshed committed by the offspring of the Lord of Murder really speaks to the fact that he is really the only appropriate choice for a romantic interest out of all of the other options. That is all.

Yes, if you are evil or just like beeing a Bhaal Spawn. Maybe even Neutral, as long as you revel in slaughter yourself and plan on taking your fathers's place among the gods.

No if you are playing Good, and try to solve quests in the best possible way. You "Can" play a Lawful Good Paladin and Romance Dorn, and i do not think that is fitting at all.

I agree with you that he is well written in the "love" parts, except for the first part where you start the Romance. That i find shaitty. (BG2)

An opinion piece - no more, no less. As such, I disagree and still consider both the romances with Anomen (becoming a knight) and Viconia (with change of alignment) the best and most satisfying options in BG2.

I half agree. Viconia is a great romance for good or evil, and the best Cleric money can buy! And she is fun. I always love it when the Handmaiden shows up!

Anomen, meh. Maybe I just prefer romancing female characters?

if you play as a pure evil character then dorn is definitely the most satisfying option since he loves you for your bloodletting.
for my serious run i actually had a soft spot for neera since i like unpredictable

For the record, Anomen isn't gay, so he only courts a female main character. Whenever he does, it is accompanied by a good soundtrack, and depending on your role-playing, Anomen's personal stuff is a good match also because of his knighthood quest.

It's good that you liked Dorn, but for me any Beamdog companion is a bit shallow compared to the originals. Dorn is too powerhungry sounding like a young master that think the world circle himself. Neera jokes sound a bit forced and Rasaad, in my view, is the best of the 3 characters, but still he's not on the point.

If you don't mind mods, Soulafein JNPC mod from Weimer i think was redone and good for BG2:EE (Just dreaming with someone to update Valen's mod to BG2:EE now).

Other good Mod JNPCs: Kido (if memory serves me well, it's the name, a Cyric's follower Jest). Just don't get near Saerileth mod for your own good (and mind health).

So, help me out here. According to all the forums I have checked, none of Weimer's mods work with EE and, specifically, the original Solaufein will crash the game at some point. If you have found a way to make it work let me know.

I have learned (and downloaded) that all the Weimer mods have now been re-done for EE by others and are scattered around the mod sites. This is great as I cannot wait to install my favorite Valen for my next run. But there are two Soalufein mods for EE and I am not sure which to use. I tried one called 'Solaufein's Rescue' this time and did not really like it. He was a straight, and not great, fighter, and I eventually locked him in a room in the Copper Coronet to keep him from following me around! So, which Solaufein mod are you using?

I think Jaheira is probably my favorite from a writing perspective. It feels a little more thought out than the others and has some nice rewards. I like the way it ties in with the harpers and the revival part before the end of SOA.

If we include mods I would would go with the Nalia Romance. There are two options plus a newer TOB mod called Nalia at last. Combine those mods with the Reunion mod and the fighter stronghold, you have a well developed character arc and well written romance that ties into other areas of the game. Pretty good though I've never really been very interested in romances I think they do add to the game if they are done well.

I remember from soem interview each NPC and romance was dedicated to different dev team members hence they vary a lot in complexity or style. At the time The guy that made Jaheira one spent on it way more time than all others combined..
(and yes, imho it is best too.. though i like Viccy as well..)

Hey. I always stick with Aerie. Full of insecurities in the beginning but blossomed in the final part. TOB was the best for the carry over. Leave your kid & partner become a God or to hell with it & just be selfish fulfill a dead god ambition. Which started the whole saga. Always fulfilling for me when the closure was written. Og Developers put a lot of thought & effort for this romance line.

Don't know if the recoder has green light from weimer (don't even know if Weimer is in touch with someone, Cawdang probably can clarify it at the Beamdog forum), but if i'm not wrong this one just adapted the mod to EE without changes,

I remember someone tried to recreate Valen in the gibberlings3 or other site, but the guy made changes in the content without Weimer bless and got heavily criticized, i think the project was abandoned after that.

Obs: I don't know if it's intentional, but Soulafein picture there is pratically Ross (from the Friends serie) with black skin. I can't unsee that and now you can't, too XD!

Best romance for me is Viconia, most indepth.

Aerie should be pursued once at least because you can have a son with her, literally, the baby is an item in ToB .

Jaheira and Anomen are, also, great romances, but Viccy is top and Aerie… well, i have a waifu thing for her!

I'm pretty sure Jaheira has by far the longest romance quest. Doesn't necessarily mean you'll like her the best. Personally I find her hot and I like her personality (despite her sometimes being a ♥♥♥♥♥). Viconia can be even more of a ♥♥♥♥♥ but I find her banter amusing. For me the best option is between those 2, and if you use mods you can just have both.
