Xzar question - spoiler alert
In the harper's compound, when you're doing Xzar request to find Montaron, if you pick the letter on the second floor and return to Xzar without the bird, you can say that you did what he requested, he just leave.

I kinda of automatically always bring back the bird at first opportunity, but i tried to explore more of the game in the current playthrough. Xzar just leave if you refuse or threaten him for payment with the letter only, but the quest doesn't upgrade to failed, and leaving and coming back doesn't respawn him in his position.

Does that meant i failed the quest, but the game never coded a consequence for that path?

Looks like it. Just tried it, bringing him the note and refusing to go back, and he walked away. I was able to spawn him in with the console C:CreateCreature("xzar") The dialogue started as if we were meeting for the first time and I was able to finish the quest.

yeah you are definitely meant to bring him the bird, this progresses the harper story line. this is further reinforced by the chest in which Montoron's body appears is empty, or has minor treasure, during your first visit.

Just to note, you find Montarons body in a chest upstairs *after* Xzar is assassinated. You have the opportunity to do this when you next are told to go to the Harper House. It gives you a nice XP bonus.

But the body itself is heavy and has no further use. (i took it *everywhere*).

It would be such a nice feature (mods or such) if someone made a "Ressurect Monatron" quest. Montaron was one of my Favorites from BG1, and i often played with him (had to get Xzar killed naturally). Montaron is the best thief of the saga in my opinion.

Aye he was a pretty funny evil we guy, the best I saw was someone gave him a proper burial in the grave yard district... I mean, it WOULD be a good wee mod, to bury the guy. (I suspect the concept of being dead too long would negate the ability to raise him, his body would be rotten the length of time he was dead)

Magic does not care about time :)

In the 2nd edition rules, the Raise Dead spell had a time limit (in days) and the longer the character was dead, the higher level the priest had to be in order for the spell to work. After a certain point the priest had to use a "Resurrection" spell instead of "Raise Dead". So using the Resurrection spell the body could be centuries old and nothing but bone.
Side Note: Raise Dead did not work on elves (even if same day), had to be a Resurrection spell. Forgot the logic Gygax gave for that. I don't know if EE changed BG2 but I can remember players griping on the GameBanshee Discussion boards about Raise Dead not working Aerie (who is a full elf).

Raise dead still does not work on Elves (as i know) but the time limit is removed i think. At least have never had any timelimit issues.

"jaheria i've got a raise dead spell ready to go right now, what the big deal? i raised both of you from the dead a bunch of times in bg1 back in the day when i sucked at this game"
