Renfeld is busy?

I had a random encounter walking around Athkatla, and an unconscious guy called Renfeld was prone at the start of the encounter. I killed the hostile enemies, and when I try to talk to the victim it just says "Renfeld is busy". Should I just leave? Is he supposed to get killed and I glitched something by killing the enemies too quick?

Might be a glitch, but you didn't tell how long you waited for that state to clear perhaps. Normally, he would say some words as to start a quest:

being busy was one of the things classic BG2 would do that required the patch.

more than likely he wants to talk to you but one of you got silenced or otherwise. so they cannot. as to where the silence came from god knows, I never cast it and the enemies won't.

did you silence him?

I would reccomend reloading, he is pretty bloody important to one of the longer companion quests. If you care about Jaheira, anyway. If not move on with your life.

@red255 thank you for this comment, this was exactly my problem. He just looked to be unconscious and bugged and I was about to give up before reading this and waiting a bit longer for the silence I cast on him (when aoe silencing the thug mages) to expire lol. Oops.
